Collections are one of Scrivener's gems. The more I use them, the more I want to use them, and the more unmanageable they become

Two wishes:

  • Collections of collections (aka collections folders)
  • Search by custom metadata

You should be able to search by custom metadata now -- each type of metadata you create is automatically added to the list of search types (for Search in Project cmd-shift-f) after you create them.

In the screenshot, you can see the ones I've added to this project after the first break: Novel and Read.

That's great! Thanks for bringing my attention to this. I now have an even greater need for collections of collections :D

<bump> for the collections of collections (aka collections' folders) request to be considered.

Plus, a new request: Links to collections.

Use case: I build a compendium (i.e. a top-level folder with docs) of my worlds as I write. I would be very handy to have a link in some of those documents to usage in the text.

Sorry, no collections of collections are planned.
All the best,

Auxbuss, just so I am clear: what you were dreaming of was some folder management for collections -- is that right? I ask because the term "collections of collections" suggests somewhat more than that, since 'collections' in Scriv is not just another name for folder, but a term for a kind of "smart" function (sometimes called "smart folders"). So, you were looking for folder management, not some kind of über smart folder function, correct?

I know Keith has already spoken, but I wanted to make sure I got what just got tabled.

Folder management for collections is sufficient. I didn't want to be overly prescriptive.

(I was wrong to use collection in its general sense in this case.)
