Re: Footnote - indented block quotes & compile

The only special thing you would need to be aware of is the Include styles information in exported file checkbox, at the bottom of the Styles format compile pane. That is on by default however, and of course if you have it disabled then all styles will be stripped out, not just those in footnotes. O...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Yeah I use Typinator as well, never seen it cause issues like that; should be fine. Another batch of potential factors: the settings in Behaviors: Composition Mode, particularly the fade and Spaces mode, but maybe even how the dock is managed. Try toggling those, and if you’re using any virtual desk...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Hmm, do you have any kind of macOS level auto-correction or date detection type stuff going on, anything that might modify how the text editor works at a basic level? I’m sure you’d be seeing it with other examples, but with all of these examples involving the kind of things Apple might scan for, it...

Re: Indenting bullets on iPhone?

To be fair I wouldn’t even call the bullet tool on the Mac an outliner . All of a Scrivener project itself, on the other hand—the way you can organise topical headings into structure and nest items within other items—yes, that’s an outline, though some find friction toward the concept of using it th...

Re: Indenting bullets on iPhone?

I haven’t heard anything to suggest that much has changed with Apple’s text engine with regards to either tab stops or bullets (the latter of which depends upon the former) in iOS 11. Perhaps we’ll see some better news next summer, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, it’ll probably just be a new font for...

Re: Page Breaks

I’m not quite following what it is you are looking for, it sounds like you are saying that you need to use a slightly different spacing model for headings than our built-in format uses in the manuscript Formats? I.e. in our default setup for the Novel template, folders are set up to generate chapter...

Re: Background Color

Try the View ▸ Enter Composition Mode menu command—its default settings in fact are quite like what you describe. If you want to tweak them, go into the Appearance: Composition Mode preference pane, under “Colors”, and have at it.

Re: Can you edit PDF files?

Not directly—Scrivener is more like a hub, or database of sorts (the comparison to Evernote above isn't too bad), for storing your research together in one place, with the idea being that you load these files out into specialist software as needed. If you use a program that uses standard methods for...

Re: Record numbers

I don’t think that would be as useful as you’re hoping it would be. :) The number that is used for external folder sync is in fact just a “public number” you might say—it is only used for that one specific purpose because the actual ID number for an item is huge and would make external folder sync v...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Thanks! No luck though, it doesn’t happen over here, and I don’t see anything peculiar with the note itself—no odd formatting like invisible tables or anything of that nature. So it is more likely some action you are taking in the project, something I’m not doing myself. It might help to describe in...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Great. Perhaps then if the problem can be communicated with formatting like that, it is something we could see if you send us a sample. Try using the File ▸ Back Up ▸ Back Up To... command (with the zip compression option enabled) on a small sample project—just enough to reproduce the problem—and ei...

Re: Composition mode -- cursor should be keystroke-ready immediately

Ordinarily, and under all circumstances I can think to try, that is how it would work. Sometimes the best way to figure it out is to create a blank test project somewhere and see if that works as expected. If so, try to find what is different between the two setups that makes a difference in behavio...

Re: Remove formatting in footnotes

I think converting the formatting to default is the closest concept to “unformatted footnotes” you’ll find in this software. Since it is a rich text editor, there isn’t really such a thing as unformatted text. The only close analogy to that is “defaults”, which is right back where we started.

Re: Highlighting Web Pages

It would be nice, but unfortunately Web Kit, the macOS technology used to save and display archived web pages, doesn’t have that capability. So while actually invoking some kind of quasi-stripped down HTML editor inside of Scrivener is out of the question, there are still some very useful approaches...

Re: document Template

I thought I had a little "What has moved into this panel" list in the What's New appendix of the manual, but it turns out I don't! So, there will be a list with old menu / feature names to help guide people to the right spot, in the next revision.
