Computer left on over night, but otherwise nothing changed. Scrivener was open. New MacBook Pro 15" OS 10.14.5 rebooted on its own this morn (auto updates??).

Scrivener tries opening last project I worked on. Rebuilds search indices each time , then crashes. Reboot, Reopen just repeats whole sequence. Seem to die on "Recovered File-3". Here's the message it spews:

Anyone... Bueller?

Recovered from a backup. 5 days later, exact same thing is happening to this file. Lost work once again.

Since it seems to be having troubles with a specific recovered file, there are two things I would try doing with it:

  1. Select the contents of the item and use the Edit ▸ Text Tidying ▸ Zap Gremlins command. Some invisible characters can cause problems during processing (like index rebuilding).
  2. Try removing any images from it, corrupt graphics can also cause problems like this.

And lastly if both of those do not work, I would trash the item and then empty the trash. If you need to preserve the contents, paste them into a TextEdit window that is set to plain-text mode. This will strip out all formatting, which may be the source of the problem. Once you’ve deleted the item from the binder, reload the project and paste the content back in to a new item.
