Novel-in-a-Day 2: The Revenge

Looking forward to this, it really was great fun last year :))

Me too! I even emigrated, just to be in a more convenient timezone to run the day.

Since we last ran a NIAD:

  • MacScriv has had two significant releases!
  • WinScriv has come out of Beta and gone all the way to v1.2.5 (and added Sci Fi Mode)!
  • iOSScriv has gone from vague rumour on the wish lists to confirmed development!
  • The formal Scriv team has added four new members!
  • MM successfully completed NaNoWriMo and therefore took over the company!
    ( literatureandlatte.com/forum … 88#p110524 )
  • nom became Doctor Nom!
  • vic-k has managed to avoid developing any new personalities (that I’m aware of)!

Good year, people. Good year.

Monsieur Porcfender,
Pourquoi Vic-k want more…when…how you say…he already has…moi, Le D?

Bonne chance mon ami
Le D

I’d love to participate, but alas my wordcount is too fickle to be able to promise to deliver anything, and since you’ve got a full list of people anyway…

I volunteer to design a cover for this project (if y’all don’t have someone more talented to do it for you, anyway.)

OK everyone, about 2 and a half weeks to go before NIAD2!

I’m going to send all participants a PM asking you to send me an email (to rog@pigfender.com if you want to send it before the PM arrives) confirming the following things:

  1. That you exist
  2. That you are still “in”
  3. The name you would like to be credited as (be it your real name or a pen name) in the final piece

Please do make sure you email me so I know you are still contactable (we had some drop-outs last time which made things difficult) otherwise we might need to reallocate your section. :frowning:

THANKS!

Oh hell. I just discovered The Revenge and I’d love to play. I’ll send you an email confirming that. Maybe I could get on the reserve list. I’ve written five novels with S, so I’m happy with the word count. Good luck to me!

Shoot!!! Just realized I will be traveling on the 20th. However, I should be able to do this because of time difference. Please email me my character sketches and chapter/plot outlines to padaro3@yahoo.com

Trust me to find this thread so late. I’d really, really like to take part if there’s room.

Hey Camy.

I’m still trying to get confirmation from two, although I’m still expecting them to be in. Send me an email to rog@pigfender.com and I’ll let you know if one of them drops out.

Rog

okay, better late than never. sorry folks. i think the notification thing is fixed.

To all the miscreant, ne’r-do-'ell, NIAD2ing, members of Scriveners crew: here’s wishing you all the best of luck and tons of success and enjoyment.
Good Luck

Thank you, Vic. I (for one) will be needing all the luck I can get! I’m beginning to wonder what on earth I was thinking of…

Looking forward to it. I think.

Ahh, tis the fair Astrid.
Are you well, my love?

I fear you fret needlessly.

Come, take my hand, Ill be your ghost of NIAD2-to-come.

Here we stand outside the Stevens household. We won’t knock, there’s no point, because nobody can see or hear us. We’ll go in. Listen, Sweet-thing, hubby is in the kitchen. Let’s take a peek. Bless him! He’s in his frilly apron…or is it yours? He appears to be baking.

We’ll leave him and go in to the writer’s den. Ahh…there you are…see…reclining on the settee, in the fully horizontal position, save for your pretty head, which is propped up with a silken pillow, at well nigh 90* to your body, so as not to put undue strain on your lovely swan like neck, whilst at the same time, facilitating efficient observation of your two forefingers, prolifically pounding away at the keyboard of the MacBook Pro, resting on your tummy.

And look, too! Close by the settee, within easy reach, a coffee table, resplendent, with glass of red wine, packet of Benson and Hedges KIngsize Filter tipped, a couple of good sized spiffs, and large lead crystal ashtray. Also, stood on the floor by the table, again, within easy reach, we can see two bottles of Aldi’s Winking Owl Shiraz.

Astrid, my dear child, as you can see, you have nothing to fret over.
Take care, and Good Luck (not that you;ll need it).

Presumably one of the two was Montree_Whiles; who is the other? Can we know? I replied to the PM but have heard nothing since other than what’s appeared on this thread and we’re now only about 3.5 days away. I didn’t do it last year so am not aware of the time scale for information roll-out. I just wonder if I’m the other … my email was sent from China — I’m now in the UK, and will actually be about 10 miles from Truro — so I just wonder if the GFWoC suppressed my mail or PF’s mail system junked it as having come from one of those phishing/spamming/rogue servers over there.

Mark

I have now heard from everyone, so unless you purposely drop out at this point (PLEASE DON’T!) you are still in.

I’ll be emailling out all the info packs to the addresses you have provided on or just after midnight (UK time) on the day itself… so about 00:01AM Saturday 20th October 2012.

A late night of anticipation, then, Rog… I’ll stock up on espresso and matchsticks to keep my eyes open until the grand unveiling

Vic, much as I love your ghost-on-the-wall impressions of my home life, it is simply outrageous to suggest that I type with two forefingers!

Nahh! I was only joking about the two fingers  oh yeah…and the lead crystal ashtray. You’ll probably have ash all over the Macbook’s keyboard.

Fair warning: I won’t be getting to the keyboard until about 15 or so hours into the event. I have a commitment at roughly midnight GMT (6pm Friday on my clock unless I’m getting the time difference all backward), and will have to get some sleep before I can start the words flowing. I figure you’ll start hearing from me at 9am my time, which would be 3pm your time.

For the sake of my sleep-muddled brain, which cannot do math until the sun’s been up a good many hours, can you tell us what major city is in your time zone? I plan to make use of my iphone’s world clock, which just uses the major city & country names, rather than “GMT -6 (Central time US)” or the like.

London is the best timezone to use if you are basing your clocks on the midnight to midnight strategy.

To add some confusion, I will personally be operating on Calgary time (MST) so will be from 5pm Friday to 5pm Saturday.

Should have made it even more complicated and hosted the event on a day which has multiple countries switching out of daylight savings time, but not all of them.

Meanwhile, try this. That should adjust itself depending on where you click from in the world, so the universal time is on the left and the local time window is on the right.
