And it seems each book will be only half the length of a normal NiaD book!

I'm not participating, I'm afraid. I have never read any apocalyptic fiction, nor watched any apocalyptic films, so any contribution from me would be totally pedestrian and stylistically inappropriate.

Also, in spite of being nearly 75, I am fully occupied with other projects—in the general sense—one of which is a very difficult translation project with my collaborator, assuming she gets the go-ahead and funding for it.

So desperate are we to explain the inexplicable!

Truth is it takes nineteen shots of espresso in twenty-four hours to fuel one NiAD — that’s why Pigfender’s bristles look like that when it’s all over. For a half-N’AD, it just takes nine and a half shots. Clearly.

It's the heart crying out for help and tearing itself out of its chest that drives that desperate genre of fiction. Like my now slashed young adult dystopian trilogy had key elements that reminded some of my critique semi-partners of The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, even though I've never read Atwood myself. Veronica Roth turns out not to be my cup of tea and Suzanne Collins' triple narratives sucked me in so deeply I didn't get to analyse the literary devices in time. I haven't begun Ally Condie, merely ended it.

So take heart, Mark. That organ is all you need for that fateful day of writing. (Or should we call it "fateful day of reckoning in an alternate and just-as-terrible reality"?)

(We need our heads to stay safe and healthy in this reality, though!)

It's not hard... just imagine what would happen to the world if there was more than one of Jaysen or Vic-K ... in the same place/time. That should be apocalyptic enough.

For "fresh take" read "no take at all"—as I discovered when I took part in the Western genre one! Once bitten, twice shy as far as I'm concerned. I shall watch from the sidelines …

And doing things like colour correcting an existing video, when the original editor made a bad shot of it, keeps me sitting in my chair for more time than is good for me!
