I am procrastinating that is cooking bacon and eggs for a late brunch with warm croissants and coffee while thinking about what I am going to write :)

Hi Pigfender

Got your pm and I confirm I have received some pieces of paper attached to an email. What do I do now?
;-)

I tried to reply to pm but I can't work out if I did or not

I suspect Pig may be asleep, so I will jump in and say...

Unless your email had a very different package than everyone else's, I expect the next thing you do is write like hell for a few hours until you hit your minimum word count and get your section done! :-)

It appears that my 'writing tools', (very large cup of coffee and box of Quality Street) are more of a distraction than an aid. Will stick to uniform chocolate in the future.

No sleep yet, or had your two hours and back awake ready to begin collating?

It sounds easy when you put it like that.

I've done it enough times that I would never suggest it was easy. In fact, for me, this one was harder than the others.

But what I can say is that it usually gets easier after the first two or three paragraphs once the panic has worn off.

Sleep is for wimps. Or intelligent people. I'm not sure. I'm pretty tired.

Last year was set on a space mission. Anyone can write about that, because there aren't any space missions like that, so there's nothing much you can get wrong. Your guess is as good as anyone else's.

This one was set in a real city I've never been to, in a real country I've never been to, at a real time before I was born. I don't know what they talk like, how they sounded. I got my entire knowledge of Vegas from the original CSI and a few Casino movies, and my entire knowledge of 1960s America by trying to stay awake during Mad Men.

What I am trying to say is, I think my characters say "G'day" a little too often!

If it's any consolation, I'm too young and British to notice.

BTW: The first chapter is IN!

I found this mafia lingo site. I'm sure it's well researched; I spent a whole 10 seconds scrolling through the list of words. I could add color to your dialogue if nothing else.

That's what passes for research when I've been asleep for 3 hours out of 25. Don't know how you do it. I'm getting too old/lazy for this.

Back to editing. Should be done in a couple of hours. I hope.
