Why is it that every time I add new text or even a new folder, it is filled up with character template instead of a blank page
Then I have to delete everything and reformat.

Did you mean to post this in the Scapple forum? It sounds like you're got a problem with the Windows version of Scrivener, rather than Scapple.

If that's the case, then what's probably happened is that you've inadvertently set the Character template to be the default 'new document' template for that folder. This feature allows you to specific which template will open in a specific folder by default.

All you need to do is select the folder in the Binder, then find a menu item called something like "Default template for new subdocuments": this will have a list of available templates, and you'll find that the Character template has been ticked. Choose "Text" instead and you should be back to the normal behaviour.

(I don't have the old version of Windows, so can't be sure of the exact name and location of the menu item, but it should be obvious.)

HTH.
