I did a search in this forum but couldn't find any mention of this, apologies if I'm missing it. Also looked in the user guide. In the past I often used "Capture selection from screen" in Scrivener to take notes from elsewhere. That appears to be gone in Scrivener 3 (I'm running 3.1.4). Am I missing something, or is it back under another name?

Thanks,
Konstantin

That's a function of MacOS. Which version of MacOS are you using? Are you on a laptop, and if so does it have F-Keys or the new-fangled control-strip? Or is it an iMac and if so which keyboard are you using?

Normally Screen Snapshots are F3 for the whole screen and F4 to select an area of the screen. How are your F-keys set? To function as F-keys or the built in functions re sound, backlight etc?

Has Scrivener or have you re-mapped F3 and 4 to other functions?

On newer Mac OS you have shift-Command-3 for whole screen dumps and shift-command-4 for partial screen capture.
I am a user, writing non-fiction and science, using:
* Mac Scrivener 3 on a Macbook 12”, MacBook Pro 13”, and iMac 27”, all running Mojave.
* iOS Scrivener 1 on an iPhone 11 Pro, iPad Air 9.7”, and iPad Pro 12.9”, all running the latest iOS

Yeah the standard is ⇧⌘3, 4 and more recently, 5 and 6. The first two go all the way back to classic Mac OS days (they also have an alternate form, where holding down the Control key sends the screenshot to the clipboard instead of a file), and the latter new addition uses a Microsoft Windows 10 style interactive screenshot interface. ⇧⌘6 takes a screenshot of the Touch Bar, if you have one of those.

As for this command, it was a Service provided by Grab.app, a tool Apple deleted when they added the overlay interface mentioned above. The bottom of the contextual menu is an area where other tools can insert global commands for all software, Scrivener included—so keep that in mind as a general rule of thumb.

If you use Time Machine, you ought to be able to roll back in your Applications/Utilities folder to a point in time prior to installing 10.14, and restore Grab, once you run that, you should get your Service back.

Don't know what came over me, thinking of F3 and 4 … I use Shift-Cmd-4 virtually every day!

Senility setting in!

Thanks Amber. Will see if I can get "Grab" back.

Lunk, Mark--yes, I knew and use those keyboard shortcuts, but hadn't realized one can then drag the resulting screen capture into a scrivener window, which works almost as well as the service that went away.

I did not know the option to capture only a part of the screen, it seems a very useful option for me, thank you very much for sharing it
