In addition to the nice things that others have told you on Scrivener, I would say that I find it sort of the "small room under the roof" that Kafka was looking for to write far from any distraction.

Scrivener can create intimacy with your text. No longer the other chapters on the way. No longer multicolor icons, desktop crazyness, windows on windows to distract you from your stream of ideas and words.

Just you and your text. That's a wonderful gift for us, busy men always in search of our quiet corner.
