Hi Folks,

I'm very pleased to announce our fourth beta. I believe we are getting very close to another free-official update now. This beta addresses 120 bugs, tweaks and refinements. All in all, Scrivener for Windows 1.7.0.4 is looking great. These past six month, on our bug fixing bender, have been painful, but has paid off I believe in terms of quality. We'll let you be the judges. Enjoy!

For a detailed list of new features and bug fixes in 1.7.0.4 beta see the following post:
http://www.literatureandlatte.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=26006 (for beta 1 fixes)

Hi,
I was so excited to see this beta version because I'd hoped it would add a custom meta-data function. Is there any way to add that feature to Scrivener for Windows? The lack of it has me looking for other software. It is my only complaint about your otherwise wonderful software.

Thanks!
Dory

I hope it gets added soon too. In this thread early last year, KB said custom metadata was coming in version 2.0.

An incredible list of changes. Thank you!!

Er...I'm still trying to import web pages in Scrivener for Windows for my research. (I saw it on my friend's Mac version of Scrivener, which is part of why I was excited about Scrivener.) Even with this new beta, I still can't get it to save a webpage as a pdf or a webpage and be able to view it in Scrivener. Can anyone else with this beta; am I doing something wrong or does it not work yet? I SO want it to work. That's my biggest dream fix at the moment (though there are others). Meanwhile...still learning the program. I'm enjoying playing with metadata.

take care,
cheryl

Nope, it's not just you. I tried to import http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla as a PDF, and just got a blank white page. I tried another webpage, http://sluggy.com (a web comic), and only got the banner advertisement.

But this is a bug in the beta, not a feature limitation of Scrivener. Once Lee gets it worked out, then you'll have this feature too.
Often wrong, rarely in doubt.
Time for a change... I'm now rdale; same dog-avatar, same dog... channel?

I believe the problem importing webpages as PDF is that there's no feedback provided to Scrivener about when the download and conversion is complete, so it's time based, and in some cases (slower machines, more complex pages) that may not be enough time for everything to download. We're working on the problem, but for now there are three other routes you could take for loading the page content in Scrivener:

* Import the webpage as plain-text instead of PDF
* Copy and paste from the browser
* Save As PDF or Print to PDF from the browser and then import the PDF

You could also download the page as MHT and then use Open in External Editor to view it in Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

*drums fingers* Sooooooooooo waiting for this update!!!

Thank you all of you who have been working them fingers to the bone. I so appreciate all the hard work you put into the software. It means so much to me that you guys work to labor on making a quality product.

Thanks for the news, and the update! I just downloaded the beta, and I will keep an eye out for issues. So far all of my issues with Scrivener prior to the beta were all easy fixes. You guys really work hard to make this look easy.

Again, thank you!

A BUG: I was going through the icon change of the binder folders, in the character template sheets, and Scrivener just closed itself out.

And it has done it two more times. When I was in corkboard in the character folder.

This sounds like it's the same bug causing a few different crashes that have been reported, related to having an empty corkboard display. We're working on fixing this and expect to have an updated beta release sooner than usual. In the meanwhile, switching the group view mode to the outliner (on a folder that does have subdocuments) may help avoid the crash.

Awesomesauce!

I have been playing with it all day and that is the only bug I have found. You guys are amazing! Thank you for your hard work and your help!
