I use the right-click menu often to get to the Thesaurus.com, but a few months ago they changed their format to one I consider really worthless & annoying, so I now use the Collins Thesaurus

I don't suppose it is possible for me to change (or add) a link to the Collins from within the Scrivener right click menu (under Writing Tools) It'd also be great to be able to delete Thesaurus.com from that menu

Just hoping here....

There's no way to do this at present, but the idea has come up before, and it may be something we're able to support (in some fashion, possibly not quite like the menu is now) sometime in the future.

Always worth checking!

I bet you could rig something with AutoHotKey to grab your selected text and throw it at whatever website you wanted, if you were feeling up to some scripting (or finding an existing script)...

If I remember correctly, the necessary string for sending over the search query to external sites is a translatable string in the language files. If you knew what you were doing you could hack the files to change this to Collins.

If LitNLat is happy to send over a blank (English to English) translation file, I'd be happy to make the fix and upload it here with instructions. I'm pretty sure I could do it without, but that would involve me going and manually removing every text string from a previously translated file which would take days, and I'm just not that helpful a person. :D

Marta,

I've done a quick 'proof of principle' test and it all worked fine. Before I go through and make the changes (it'll likely be Monday / Tuesday before I can post the results), I figured I might as well afford you the opportunity to change some of the others as well!

Eg, do you want "All English" or "American English" for the thesaurus search?
Do you want me to change the Dictionary.com search to Collins Dictionary? If so do you want British English or American English?
Etc, etc.

Rog,
First of all, THANK YOU!!!
I'd like COLLINS for both the thesaurus and the dictionary and both with American English

No problem. Unfortunately my website is down at the moment (hence the little question marks where there should be pictures of dinosaurs). As soon as I get that sorted I'll do the mod and then let you know here!

Okay, I've added a post to the tips section of the forum, which in turn links to a page on my site that has the necessary file and instructions.

Suggestion. Why don't you post it on the Scrivener FB page. I'm sure a lot of people would like it

:D Glad you like it.
I"ve tweeted and posted on my own FB page with the appropriate links so DMJ can see it. I'll leave it to him to decide whether to re-publish on the official pages... they're not always keen on tips that involve lifting the hood and tinkering with the engine.

Ah. I see. Makes sense. I can imagine someone being careless, getting mad with power and..."Uhmm, lets see. If I can do this, maybe I can do that...." And corrupting their project, then mewling about it.

Anyway, thank you for doing it for me. You have no idea what a time saver it is. (or maybe you do?)

Would love to be able to customize the main menus and context menus, like the keyboard and toolbars are. There are A Few Activation Keys I'd Like To Change.
Lead me not into user error.
