I have a Windows 8.1 OS
I updated Scrivener to the newest version sometime in early June.
Once previously after the update, and twice within the last hour, I have highlighted text in a split window and dragged it to the other window. When I let go of the mouse button, the text was dropped in the new window and then immediately went on to replicate itself in the new window multiple times (the text was about 200 words long and my word count for that chapter went from 7,000 to 11,000 in seconds) It stops if I click somewhere within the original text. I have not had any issues with my mouse under any other circumstances (and I do a lot of cutting and pasting outside of Scrivener), so I don't think it's the mouse.
I can't make it happen; it's random. Thanks.

It did it again today, while was using my touch pad to do the dragging (previously had used a wireless mouse).

Anyone?

OK, I figured out how to replicate the bug. I dislike tying new dialogue on the very bottom line of the screen, so I will hit "enter" multiple times to bring the last line of text to about mid-page. If I drag and drop into the lower 1/3 of the screen immediately after doing that, it copies the entire section multiple times indefinitely. I let it go just now to see how long it would go and I finally stopped it at about 500 repeats.

Crossing fingers.

Is there any way you could create a screencast demonstrating this? That might help us reproduce it. I tried following the description you just gave, but the drag and drop worked correctly. It could be an issue though with where the original text is selected, or I may not be dropping in the proper place, etc. so a video would really help. Jing is one free option for creating a quick screencast; you have to sign up for it, I believe, but that then gives you space on their server to upload your screencast and a link to share it with others. I'm sure a quick search on the internet will turn up other options.

That aside, have you tried enabling Format > Options > Typewriter Scrolling? That does exactly what you're attempting with the multiple empty lines at the bottom, always keeping your current line centred in the editor. You can toggle it on and off individually for each editor split and the full screen editor.
