I use a Macbook Pro 15", and just now upgraded to MacOS Catalina.
When opening Scrivener (license bought from Literature And Latte), my Mac openes a window telling me to type in my license or my 30 day trial will expire) .... what's up with that?

fwiw, I had this issue last night on a machine that's still on Mojave. I had my details to hand, so filled them in; but the spinner span for 10 to 15 minutes doing nothing until I force quit – there was no way to cancel the dialogue, which was disappointing.

I've had no further issues, but I'm very nervous now about Scrivener's licensing software (Paddle, is it?) and the permanence of what I thought was my software.

Re Scrivener V2 not working on Catalina, Apple have been warning of this change for something like 3 years and it has been mentioned on this site a number of times.

Thankfully L&L offer a generous upgrade discount.

For anyone who purchased on the Mac app store, if you need to upgrade, it can’t be done through the app store, so email L&L support with a copy of your purchase receipt or if you can’t find it ask them what you need to show to get the upgrade discount.

Does anybody know why, since the Catalina upgrade, I cannot use the italics shorcut, nor turn the text into italics, for the "italics" option looks now light gray (unavailable)?

You will need to use the button in the Format Bar by hand, for the moment. It's just the shortcut and menu command that are incorrectly disabled.

I went through this this morning. You should know that the dialog asks for license name and license number(?) but what it wants is email address and serial number. Just a little extra confusion.

I just opened Scrivener 3.1.3 today (Catalina update last week). Message came up that I needed to upgrade Scrivener, which I did. Then it says I must purchase or the trial version will end.

Unfortunately when I went to add the license my current license was not accepted. (Have used Scrivener for several years and have always updated licenses when needed). Scrivener has never asked to be deactivated in the past.

Anyway, the only option is to "deactivate Scrivener." So I am at an impasse. Do I deactivate, and then somehow magically my license will be accepted?

When you say it "asks to be deactivated", what is the precise wording of that message? I'm not familiar with any processes that would ask you to deactivate manually, presumably so you can activate again, because it's not activated but yet you can deactivate it? Seems like you're in a bit of a Catch-22 by literal description.

At any rate, I would download 3.1.4 before giving this problem too much time. There were known issues with the Paddle component that was shipped with 3.1.3, with regards to 10.15.

I had upgraded to Scrivener 3.1.4 the day a couple days before.

Now the window that asks to be deactivated does not appear. However, when I enter my email and license, I get a message that there is no account with that information. When I click on "recover lost license." I receive an email that there is no account with that information.

Given how long you’ve been a Scrivener user, it’s more likely the second field on that recovery page is what you want. You would have purchased Scrivener 3 before this summer, when we switched to Paddle, right?

Excellent! Sorry for the hassle, but at least now you have a copy you can save in the email archives for the future.
