Hi, I want to change the color of the area identified in the accompanying image, which is a text item. Can you tell me what it is and where in preferences I change it?

thanks

It would be easier to answer this if you showed the whole window or the whole screen. What you are showing could be almost anything.
I am a user, writing non-fiction and science, using:
* Mac Scrivener 3 on a Macbook 12”, MacBook Pro 13”, and iMac 27”, all running the latest MacOS
* iOS Scrivener 1 on an iPhone 8, iPad Air 9.7”, and iPad Pro 12.9”, all running the latest iOS

It shows that you have fixed width editing set - so you need to go to Preferences > Appearance > Main Editor, then choose the option which looks nearest to ‘Fixed Width background’ (I’m on the iPad and can’t remember the exact wording, but it,s obvious when you see it.)

HTH.

Text background color in Main Editor in Preferences, I think.

Right, I'm back on the Mac now.

If you're talking about the two white columns either side of the page in your screenshot then you definitely need Preferences > Appearance > Main Editor > Colours > Fixed Width Background. (see screenshot below):

If you're talking about the blue page on which the text is written, then it's the same tab but it's Editor line (and the colours tab) you want to select. (Lunk, sorry, there's no 'Text Background' option).
