I've struggled with this for a couple of hours, so I thought I'd ask here, after checking the manual, reviewing the YouTube videos, poking around on these forums, and my own problem solving. I'm a new Scrivener user, btw, so I'm still getting the hang of things.

Here's my issue: when compiling a PDF from a collection of documents (in the binder I have three folders, each containing a text document; the folders are categorized as "Headings"), I'm getting substantial spacing between the Heading and the Sections. My thinking is that this should be resolved in Compile > Formats > Edit format... > Separators, but none of my adjusting in there seems to help.

Here's the end result:

The gap between "Understanding feedback" and "Correction Codes" is substantially bigger than I'd like it to be: a line, perhaps two.

Here are a few more examples of my compile settings, if seeing those would be helpful:

From a new user perspective, the most substantial challenge is that seems like there are so many areas of the compile stage ("Section Layouts", "Separators", "Styles", etc.) that I'm not sure where to fix things, or when adjusting in compile I may affect something else.

Any problem solving ideas or help would be greatly appreciated — thanks!

Hello.

There are two settings to check initially.

1. Separators
Check the separator settings for Heading and Section. If they have 'empty line' selected, try 'single return' instead.

2. Title Format
In the sampler for each type, click in the title line and then check the spacing settings (choose other).

If neither of the options above work, would it be possible to share an obfuscated version of your project?

Problem solved — thanks Bridey!!!

I was able to resolve the spacing issue via your second point, about title format. The default (?) was set at 36 points, both before and after for paragraph spacing for "New Page Heading and Text". Here's a screenshot in case it's helpful for anyone who stumbles across this post in the future:

Adjusting the paragraph spacing reduces the space between the title and text in the way I was hoping for:

Thanks again for your problem solving skills, Bridey.
