That's my pleasure. I don't give praise or accolades lightly. But Scrivener 2 deserves it.

So you have a holiday too!
The red one? Off World Colonies?
Go check your easter egg ;-)
I'm frustrated and sad. I cannot find Keith's easter egg. I've found one that gives me quotes, but Keith said something cryptic about poking around to see vids or pics of him and the 'team.' And clearly there are easter eggs like this to be found. My eyes are tired from looking. Please, are these eggs hidden in the program or on the site (is it possible to have easter eggs on a web site??)?

Oh yes. :) There are all kinds of places to hide eggs. When I worked in DVD production, we used to put extremely difficult to find easter eggs in the DVD menu code. There are even hardware easter eggs. Messages printed at the microscopic level on chips, suchlike. We are surrounded by a world of pranksters' jokes being propagated by factories and digital machines.
Geesh! You guys who are bent on whining about the new icon need to cope. Is it such a big deal what the thing looks like? Shouldn't you be more obsessed with your writing?
I still haven't been able to download the new Scrivener but I've written two novels in the previous one (one about to be published). However as a first impression I have to agree that I prefer the old icon. And I've quoted the text above because it is a big deal for many of us. As the word icon implies, it's the symbol of the entire software. And the old icon was a sleek, elegant and very professional icon -both aesthectically and symbolically. The new one looks a bit childish and amateurish. The S was implied as it should be in the old icon. It could have been stressed a bit more (if it was felt necessary) but not by putting a large S in the middle and destroying the entire aesthetics.

Of course it can be replaced, thats beside the point, but why have the wizards in the Scrivener team taken a step backward in the icon, while everything else seems to have gone forward -inc. the general software GUI?

Small things count shrumpkin.

I shall write my gratitude and praise for the software as soon as I get it. I'm sure it deserves many.

Btw, I'm writing all this as a full time designer who have designed over 600 published books and many many company icons. Not that its somthing I want to brag about... I just know to some extent what I'm talking about. And I really felt the old icon gave a good first impression that told me this is a professional piece of software.

The really hilarious thing is that part of the reason for us changing the icon was the vast numbers of users who e-mailed us or posted on the forums to say how much they hated the old icon - where were all you guys who are suddenly enamoured of the old icon then, huh? I have an inkling some people just don't like change. :)

Anyway, we like the icon, we thought long and hard about it, blah blah, but ultimately it is part of our branding and therefore not open to discussion. Obviously feel free to love or hate it, but it has no bearing on functionality and this thread is now getting bogged down with people expressing their subjective opinions about our icon. I'd therefore be grateful if we could drop all discussion of the icon and icons from this discussion now - thanks!

As for the Easter eggs, it's not just me in there... Who's that long-haired chap with a cap? Didn't everyone used to think he was a girl...?

Okay so if I want to find an easter egg I just have to sit at the keyboard and make like a monkey by tapping random key combinations ad infinitum until I a) accidentally write Hamlet or b) get to see a photo of Keith (or Amber).

sheesh. Can't you give us a teeny tiny hinty-winty? Anything. Like, how many keys to combine????????

Let's just say you can't access them directly from the program itself. :)

Thanks Keith, that was the clue I needed to find the easter eggs! :)

As for the icons, I like them.

As for the divider line, I like it and think it is much better than the alternating colors.

Fair enough Keith. The icon is the one thing that has the right to be as personal as you want it to be. We're writers here, so we have something to say on everything concerning anything. Cheers.

Thanks for your understanding, much appreciated. And when I said it wasn't open for discussion, I didn't mean that to sound as curt as it did on re-reading my post, apologies for that. (The trouble is that I come to this thread at the end of a day of banging my head against a brick wall fixing bugs, thinking, "Ah, new posts, wonder what they're saying about Scrivener 2.0.... Argh! They're still complaining about the icon! Brick wall, here's my head again!" :) )

Keith, you're right to maintain your anonymity - he who needs to be splashed across the net needs to get a life!

Bugger the icon - we've all got opinions, and art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. The app is what matters and I haven't found a bug yet!

Forget the brick wall! Get a good sized G & T, or whatever, and look at Scrivener through an alcoholic haze. Life always looks better that way.

You've done it, most of us are well pleased; we can work better now.

So take a holiday, and a stiff G & T!

Okay, found the photos. Thanks for the hint, I'd never have found them otherwise. But no faces, eh? Very mean to give so much, yet give so little. :) Yeah, nice t-shirt (Off World Colony?), but still....where's the rest of you??? Is there a reason you don't show your faces, eh???

And why aren't Lee or Julia in there, eh?

Hmmm, and why am I adding 'eh' to all my questions, .... almost said 'eh' again...

So are there other easter eggs other than the quotes and the photos with Scrivener faces? For those who don't like the new icon, don't bother looking for the photos, btw. You'll hate them. ;-)

David, are you playing an air guitar?? Like the jacket.

Ioa, I like your outfit especially well. Neat hat et al. You look like you are a rogue photo journalist or something, maybe for an underground newspaper. And with books bulging from your pockets. Very cool...
