Re: Binder trouble

This looks like a very old version of Scrivener that is being run on a newer macOS. Make sure you are up to date by using the "Check for Updates" command from the main Scrivener menu (or through the App Store software if you bought it from Apple).

Re: Is Scrivener 3 really that much better than 1.9 for windows?

Out of curiosity, what aspect of the inspector are you referring to as having changed for the worse? I might be misled by your description of it being tabbed, because that's how it always was, maybe you just meant that as a descriptor for the sidebar inspector (as opposed to the Quick Reference insp...

Re: Disable "synchronous" scrolling when working with two editors

As noted above, this isn't something Scrivener can do, and has been observed in a variety of different programs. It's a Mac bug.

Re: All confidence in Scrivener (3 years worth) lost, it is garbage

I would double-check your saved projects on the disk (the File ▸ Find All Projects in Spotlight command can help here, but you can also just search Spotlight for “kind:Scrivener Project” yourself) and make sure you didn’t accidentally load an older version of the project. This constitutes about 99.9...

Re: Editor history

That is how it should work—or rather as in all ways with Scrivener, it would preserve the cursor position not the scroll position, when traversing through history (and that avoids scenarios like what you bring up, where some text might radically change beneath the scroll coordinates).

Re: Highlighters

Yes, it’s pretty much identical on Windows, just right-click to bring up the expanded highlight tool. Something else to consider is to use a character style for this. The style would be set to simple use normal formatting for the text, with both font checkboxes disabled. While you could apply the hi...

Re: Unable to compile to KF8 .mobi

I think Kindle Previewer has Kindlegen bundled inside it now? This may be the point where this problem first occurred, is when the new Kindlegen became resident there. Kindle Previewer itself gets no opportunity to even open before an apparent exception is thrown, though I assume the compiling does...

Re: Too many fonts.

I often find the Format ▸ Font ▸ Show Fonts panel to be more efficient than using the dropdown anyway. For one thing you can type in the name of the font you want in a more natural way (rather than just cycling through first-letter matches one by one), and since it isn’t previewing the font there ar...

Re: "Creating a backup"!

If you haven’t changed your settings, then you won’t be generating numerous backups beyond what is reasonable. The default limit is set to keep only the five most recent states your project was in when it was last backed up. For most people that will be around a week or two or work. You can read mor...

Re: Keyword organising

Well you might want to give some thought into keeping things in one larger project, in that case. :) I don’t know, maybe that would introduce further complications I’m not aware of, but maintaining a huge list of keywords across eight projects sounds like a lot of work to me, and I’d wonder if there...

I think a better approach to this would be a "Restart Now" button in any dialogue box that warns you of the necessity of doing so before seeing changes made.

Re: Mass Font Changing

The easiest way to change bulk formatting is with the technique described in this knowledge base article . Before doing so, if the main reason for switching things up is to fix the kerning issues, you might want to try playing with the “Display Font Hinting” setting, in the Editing: Options tab ( Fi...

Re: How can I organize the documents in parallel in the arrange-by-label view?

You can't get two cards side by side like that because the horizontal axis in this case shows you the order of the cards within the selection. Only one card (or chunk of text in the overall flow) can be in the 5th position, so with this view you can move one of the cards ahead of it, but then it wil...

Re: Page numbering!

If you enable View ▸ Text Editing ▸ Show Page View then an estimated page count will be provided in the footer bar. It’s worth stressing, as it is in the manual as well, that this is an estimation. It’s not really possible to know what the actual page number of anything is, since compile can so radi...

Re: Writing in columns that correspond in content

Is there another way to format this as I work in scrivener and/or to complile this way? Not as you work, for all of the reasons given above. Scrivener’s text editor is just not designed for that kind of page layout. But you can indeed compile into columns, it’s just not enabled in any of the defaul...
