Re: M1 Compile Times

I've been an Apple user since before there even *was* an Apple. I was a member of the French Resistance back in the early 1920s. There wasn't much for us to do for the first couple of decades of our existence so we spent most of our time dabbling in IT hardware engineering and the design of operatin...

. The only fail, a SuperDrive in a 15" MacBook that took a 6-7" drop on a airport screening conveyor in Ireland. Seriously who puts two conveyors together with a drop in the middle? That’s one of the reasons they insist you put all your stuff in the trays and not directly onto the conveyor.

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

Nothing is hack proof. I once saw a documentary about a group of terrorists that were able to hack into a US military satellite... from a moving train! We even watched them hack into a Navy Seal’s Newton (gaining access both to all his cooking recipes and his folder of “tactics”) using nothing more ...

Really good YouTube channels / Blogs on writing?

It's a new year and I'm re-energised with creative spirit and enthusiam. Can anyone recommend some good YouTube channels that talk about creative writing that I can follow to keep that vibe going for as long as I can? Blogs and Podcasts are also welcome, but priority one is really good YouTube chann...

Re: Want to write

To echo Katherine's advice... Writing is like walking; the core skill is beyond very few of us. A full length novel is like a marathon; it's completion requires dedication and stamina. Anyone can run a marathon. It's not difficult of itself. You might not get a great completion time on your run (jus...

Re: Does the "Hero's Journey" Writing Approach Apply to Military Techno-Thriller / Historical Novels?

Whilst I’ve no objection to Save the Cat which is a well written explanation of the method Blake Snyder used to write his movies, it’s important for anyone reading it to remember that Snyder’s biggest film success was Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot! and to be frank, his advice on plotting is generic enou...

Re: AMERICANS! Please help...

Americans, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders! I once again need your help!! (Yes, I know this means I'm admitting to still working on the same book seven and a half years later) So... In the UK we had a public campaign to get an increasingly overweight and fast-food dependent nation eating ...

Re: Should I upgrade to Big Sur now, or wait?

Never upgrade. It’s a trap to make you think you need a new, more powerful computer. I’m finding the opposite is true this time. I was planning to buy an Arm MacBook Air, because my MacBook Air 2029 is constantly overheating and the fan is running like crazy. Since I updated to Big Sur today, I hav...

Re: Letter "a" is disappearing

Looks like a project-wide find and replace of the letter ‘a’ with a space character. Are there options that could have that affect binder titles too? Fixing is likely to involve restoring from a backup. Suggest making a backup of the backup before playing with it incase something on your system corr...

Re: Scrivener should become subscription

If Apple was happy to sell you stuff via the App Store in your country I’d be absolutely amazed if your country wasn’t on this list of local numbers to call: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201232 Of course most of those numbers are freephone lines which is irritating enough in itself as they’re f...

Feature Request ;)

I watched the Apple live stream earlier today with a great deal of excitement about the transition from Intel processors to the new SoC M1 silicon. One thing that caught my eye in particular, was the idea that M1 silicon Macs will be able to run iOS apps natively! As such, my request is simple. Plea...

Re: Affinity Publisher! It’s alive! ALIVE!

I own (but have uninstalled) copies of Affinity Designer and Photo. Both are great app - easy to use and feature rich. My experience with them is such that I assume Publisher is also excellent. I’ve uninstalled them, because without an alternative to Lightroom, I still need an Adobe subscription. I ...

Re: Windows 3 - couple of wishlist items

When I see people say “I need this feature or it’s not worth using Scrivener at all” I’m reminded that Jane Austen produced some rather fantastic books using this early Scrivener prototype:

But, yes, I also love dark modes.
