Re: New Navigation Pane boosts MS Word utility for writers

i ordered the new ms office from macmall and got it about a week before the official release. it loads faster. i use excel and word for my real job and for my part-time job teaching adjunct at one of our local universities. in those environments, ms office rules. i would never, ever, ever, EVER writ...

Re: speech recognition and scrivener

i use dragon for windows. i got started with it before there was a good alternative for mac, and since i'm on that upgrade path, keep with it because it's less costly and i already have it set up and know how to use it. i run it under parallels with windows xp. i use it mostly for transcribing notes...

Re: 2.0 looks good but giving up on it for current project

I found some reports in the console. Would someone give me the email address where I should send them?

Re: 2.0 looks good but giving up on it for current project

Thanks for both of you.

I'm using 10.6.4.

I'll try to convert again tomorrow and report back with more info.

2.0 looks good but giving up on it for current project

I've driven myself batty -- not a long trip -- trying to convert a large existing project to 2.0. It's a huge project, with lots of research files in it -- 1.93gb. I exported a great deal of the research and got it down to 900 gb. No matter. It always conks out at some point. It's not running out of...

I've been using the Kensington Expert Mouse, which is a trackball, since back in the 90s.

Re: Scrivener and Alphasmart

I'd been chasing myself around the house, trying to avoid/write an article for a local news magazine. I hammered out a too-long, too-too sorta draft in Scrivener Sunday, but, well, it wasn't worth editing. Then yesterday, I pulled out my Alphasmart and wrote the fool thing. I did the draft on the Al...

Re: Scrivener and Alphasmart

I can't add much to this except emphatic agreement. I think that Scrivener/Alphasmart are perfect together. I have both a Neo and a 3000. The Alphasmart is the best environment I've found for writing first drafts. It's stupid simple to use, not fragile, lightweight, free of distractions, and has a b...

Re: kindle for reading or ipad???

i don't have an ipad, so i can't made a direct comparison, but i can say that the kindle has been a happy purchase, one that i would certainly make again. the important thing for me is that i can actually read with the kindle for hours at time and not be afflicted with blurry eyes and headaches afte...

Re: Database suggestions

if i understand what you want, i would guess that almost any software that organizes lists and does simple searches will do. if this is part of how you make your living rather than a hobby, i would suggest that you chose something that looks as if it will be around for a while. you can make a simple...

Re: I want to write that great tale - but when?

Paolo, this is just a suggestion, use it or don't as it suits you. I would: 1. Buy an alphasmart. 2. Pound away on it during my commute. I do all my work, including my job, in bits and snatches. I just can't concentrate on anything longer that two hours at a time. Oh, I can force myself to keep sitt...

Re: kindle for reading or ipad???

one more thought: i'm an infrequent long-distance traveler; usually just a few times a year. when i do travel, i always bring my macbook. if i spent more time in airports, i'd probably spring for a macbook air rather than an ipad. it's that functionality thing again.

Re: kindle for reading or ipad???

i expect that i will one day find an irresistible use for the ipad. filemaker gave me thought when they issued their new mobile version of filemaker for ipad and iphone. but i've decided that i can use the iphone as well as an ipad for the simple data entry (mainly click on one or two fields) that i...

Re: AlphaSmart (the opposite of the iPad)

i have an alphasmart 3000 that i bought for loose change on ebay. i got it because of things i had read on this forum. i liked it so much, i ended up buying a new neo. i tried to get a neo on ebay, but the bidding wars kept pushing the price too high for a used item. my alphas are ugly, unassuming, ...
