Re: Vocabulary

Thanks Kathrerine and Martin. The provided link is useful. It seems that Katherines method is called incidental learning and gives 25% active learning and 77% passive learning. Using multimedia is best when text+picture combination is used. Text and video or sound are not as good.

Vocabulary

What's the best way to acquire a large vocabulary in English. The organic way, by learning new words as you come across them? Making your own list and attaching a memory aid for learning a word? Using some kind of computer app that helps you learn new words? Or ...

Re: iPad Enthusiasm

A friend of mine who can't speak English very well, wants to learn the English language by reading books on his iPad. When stumbling on a word he does not understand he would just like to point on the word and get the Swedish translation in a pop up window or something similar. He asked me for help....

Re: No 1

I had a real difficulty answering this question. There have been a few books that really blew my mind when I first read them. They were totally unsuspected. I could not even imagine that such books could be written. And they changed the way I started to think and evaluate situations. These books are...

What is your favorite book no 1? You are only to pick ONE SINGLE book. I know it might be hard to pick just one, but still choose just one. Not the book which is most beautiful or impressively written. Not the most rescent book that made an impression on you. But the one book which has meant more in...

Re: less then a minute remaining

Thanks, Jaysen and Nom. It turned out that MIgration Assistant did most of the copying when it stalled. So the last part I could do by hand, and my friend is happy now with his new MacMini. :D I advised him to get a MacMini and iPad for the same price (more or less) as Macbook pro. Now he has better...

Re: less then a minute remaining

Take this as an example: open terminal and do a mkdir test and then ln -s ~ test/ That will create a link in the test folder back to your home directory. You will go forever and never hit the end of that directory as it will always go back to the beginning (home). How do you account for that kind o...

Re: less then a minute remaining

or it could be that the long minute is the result of an un-catchable error. Say something like a software package that doesn't follow the rules… Not everything is a result of nefarious business objectives by corporations. Even M$ gets an undeserved bad rep for this kind of thing. Did I just type th...

less then a minute remaining

I am in the process of helping a friend migrate the data from his old mac into a new mac. Using Migration Assistant everything went well until the progressbar sad "less then one minute remaining". It was 1 hour ago. I looked it up on the net and it seems that this has been around since at ...

(10) Let STATES decide on issues such as Gay marriage, drug laws, etc. The federal government needs to stop trying to be big mother and put more power back to each state. That way people with common views can live in states with other people with common views and cut out the "trying to make ev...

What do you REALLY, REALLY want for Christmas? A comfortable jockstrap. vic Dear vic-k. You have done a great service to our community and I think we should grant you your wish. But I'm little uncertain about which ones you prefer. I have found two jockstraps that look very comfortable. The first a...
