Re: Who's in for Nano 2015?

Woo hoo! I poked around on my hard drive and found a folder that was miscellaneous stuff I'd brought over from three computers ago, including a whole folder labeled 'story ideas never started.' :D Actually liked two or three, but there was one clearly best suited to Nano-ing. So now I have a genre (...

Re: Who's in for Nano 2015?

I keep wanting to...but so far I don't even have a vague idea. And for a confirmed plotter, that's not good. :( what's the worst thing that could happen if you 'pantsed' a novel? you'd get 50,000 words of something you didn't expect to write... I already tried that one year, and the result wasn't p...

Re: Guess the Genre! NIAD 2015

What the subject line says -- What do you think this year's genre will be? Rule: One guess only, none of this 'Well, maybe SF, but it could be Urban Fantasy, or maybe Cozy mystery." Nope. Pick your genre and plop your only coin down on it. My guess: Western. Yee-hah! I do NOT believe it! I nai...

Re: Guess the Genre! NIAD 2015

OOoh! Can I play? What do I win if I get it right? Uh. A NIAD t-shirt? I'm sure you need one. Beth, RDG... you guys taking part this year? Surely you keep all your weekends in October free just in case? I *want* to, but I've got an upcoming surgery (nothing life threatening) that's not yet schedule...

Re: Special Characters

You know, if I had character names that required inserting 'weird' characters all the time, I think I'd temporarily rename them to Joe and Mary and such. And then do a s&r to the real names, perhaps at the end of each writing session, perhaps not until the entire story was done. But then, I'm bo...

Re: peeking backstage in Scrivener's XML

That import/export utility sounds like a great idea! Are you going to offer it for other people to use?

Re: Section7 (NiaD 2014)

Instead of indulging in Black Friday I've put the extra time off to much better use: finishing Section 7! And I have nothing but praise for everybody involved -- both versions of the novel hung together and were great fun to read. (Makes me triply sorry that life wouldn't let me play this year.) Sin...

Re: Should I be concerned about "crash dumps" folder?

Yes, actually. I often get a warning that it has stopped working, but if I hit return all seems to go on as before. So maybe that's the cause, but as you way, why there? I renamed that folder (to Xcrashdumps) just to if a new one gets created or what. So far, not.

Re: Should I be concerned about "crash dumps" folder?

Yeah, it's just what you guessed, a 'higher level' folder to keep together both the scrivener folder AND assorted other related stuff. What I have is: c:\0MyGreatNovel\ (the zero is just to keep it sorted to the top of the files list) And inside that is c:\0MyGreatNovel\MyGreatNovel.scr With under t...

Should I be concerned about "crash dumps" folder?

I just noticed that there is a new folder called "Crash dumps" inside my main project file. I mean, this is in the same folder/level as my various bits 'n' pieces and the TITLE.scriv file. Inside it are a bunch of files, mostly dated a month or so ago, almost all with names like iexplore.e...

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 4.0: Live Free or NiaD

Question: Given the new "multiple versions of a segment possible" procedure -- which sounds excellent to me -- I wonder if perhaps you could add one more option for the volunteers? Besides being able to opt into/out of gore, could we ask to be assigned to a segment with multiple writers? T...

Re: Not really a problem, just a question

<slaps forehead w/embarrassed look> That never even occurred to me! But yes, it sounds exactly like what I need, and would be much easier all around.

Thank you for your help! I'm so glad I finally asked about it here.
