Re: When to quit...?!

Read it through. Do you still like the story? Yup, but I’ve also lost all perspective on it. Is it good, or is it just familiar?! ...writing new work. Re-writing isn't. I’m a long way from the re-writing stage. I’ve written 24 and a half chapters and I reckon that’s about 2/3 the way through. How a...

When to quit...?!

How long is too long to spend on a piece of writing? What are the tell-tale signs that a WIP has outstayed it’s welcome? I started work on my WIP eight years ago, and while I’m still enjoying it, the constant disruptions (the day job, eight NiaDs, two emigrations, etc) have dragged the whole thing o...

Re: Add a Basic Macro Capability

Keyboard Maestro? https://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/ We should not have to pay $36 to be able to use macros!! Why not? The development effort and overhead for maintaining the code base and providing user support for this kind of feature has been priced by the market at an additional $36 as evide...

Re: Social Media

I have a thoroughly unimpressive social media strategy, but that’s okay because I also have nothing to sell and claustranthropic tendencies. Two main twitter / Instagram accounts: @pigfender / @pigfenderofficial for pictures from my life, @novelinaday / @novelinaday for writing and NiaD related stuf...

Re: MasterClass: who's tried it?

I’ve seen the Aaron Sorkin one on screenwriting (I’m a Sorkin fanboy). It was a fascinating insight into his approach, but ultimately it didn’t change the way I approach my own writing. Then again, I’ve got my “philosophy of writing” down, so was perhaps less in the market for a life-changing lesson...

Feature request! ;)

Scrivener is well known for its security and resilience against crashes; using back-ups on close and auto save on pause to prevent technology related lost data. Yet there is one glaring problem that, at the moment, Scrivener is unable to protect against: Human incompetence and mental glitches. My pr...

Re: Which MacBook?

The most important spec on a laptop for writers is the keyboard. It’s got to be a pleasure to type on for hours. For me, that rules out any current Apple laptop, but you might like the (new?) low-travel keys they’re using. Make sure you try one in store before you commit! The second most important s...

A different but somewhat related question, then...

What do people think about revisiting genres?

Re: Revisit previous years events?

Some interesting views here. Thanks everyone who has chipped in; I understand and appreciate both points of view. I’ll leave this thread here for others to add their opinions and suggestions, although for the moment at least there doesn’t seem to be a significant enough body of “yay”s to warrant a r...

Bitterness doesn’t fade. Time just makes it thicker until its concentration gives it a sweetness you want to apply to everything.

No, wait... I’m thinking of balsamic vinegar.
