Re: Making Scrivener look more like Ulysses

Have a look at the Window > Layouts > Manage Layouts dialogue. This allows you to set up your screen to a particular layout, then save and name it to get back to it quickly (you can also add a shortcut in System Preferences to make this quicker still). So firstly set about going through the menus t...

Italics lost when converting to default formatting

I’m encountering a strange issue with Screvener on iOS 11 betas 6 and 7. Sometimes, when I import an RTF file, selecting all the text and converting it to default formatting will (again, sometimes) remove italics, but only from some sentences. Others will be fine. This most often happens with senten...

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

If you can, I'd recommend buying through the L&L store. Not only will L&L get more of the money, but when Scrivener 4 rolls around, you'll be able to take advantage of upgrade pricing.

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

since they seem unwilling to add CriticMarkup I'm reviewing Ulysses and while I like the spit and polish (a lot), the practical side of my brain is struggling to get over their premium pricing when there are better Markdown and text editors on the market. I accept that Ulysses is nicer to compose a...

Re: Making Scrivener look more like Ulysses

You can also hide the header and footer views (under View->Layout) and hide the toolbar (this might be what you meant by "hide the menu").

For fullscreen, you can get the Compose window to look pretty close to Ulysses.

Re: What fonts do you use?

I fell in love with Nitti iA when iA Writer came out with it a few years ago. After a lot of work, I finally managed to extract the raw OTF files, and it's now my default drafting font. Before that, I liked Menlo.

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

I think there's a pretty big difference between a software subscription and a Netflix subscription. With Netflix, you get a major convenience (no more discs, and you can watch from almost anywhere) and a huge content library you're unlikely to ever exhaust. With a Ulysses subscription, you get ... t...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

Unfortunately Ulysses breaks like clockwork with each major macOS/iOS version, so that resolution will work for only a year at most.

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

I guess what's frustrating, and eyebrow-raising, about the move is this line from the Medium post: After all, we have a system which currently works — after 14 years we are still around, Ulysses is still “a thing”, it’s even going better than ever before, and there are no immediate signs which hint ...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

I'm one of those heathens who moved from Scrivener to Ulysses, but thanks to this news, you can count me in for v3.

Thelgord is talking about using an external keyboard, so this doesn’t apply. (And the keyboard in question doesn’t have a capslock LED.)

Word count not matching up with Mac version

The other day, I fixed my Windows PC, so I went to work on NaNo there instead of on my Mac. I was quite pleased to see that my word count was about 120 higher than I remembered it being (45,211 vs 45,093). I was a little skeptical, though, so I closed down Scrivener, fired up the Mac, and saw that t...

Re: Color formatted text differently

Those suggestions aren't quite what I'm looking for, but I appreciate it--especially as I didn't know that you could use underscores instead of italics (I'm used to Markdown with asterisks, but MMD export won't do PDFs, so I never use it). That will make using Scrivener with Hemingway.app much, much...

Color formatted text differently

I recently tried out Ulysses. I decided it only had two features I really liked, and a number of things I didn't, so I'm sticking with Scrivener (which I do really like; I just like to shop around every now and then to see what else is there). One of the features that Ulysses had that I really liked...
