Re: PDF editing

The basic version does OCR, see:http://www.smileonmymac.com/PDFpen/compare.html

There are some introductory videos on that page, too.

Re: Relational database for submission tracking

Something that has until now stopped me from using SQLite is that I always thought that although there are some apps that let you visually *manage* your database, you'd nonetheless be forced to *build* them manually, meaning without visual feedback hacking away in the commandline. The CL is not evil...

BeeDocs 3D Timeline on sale

the usual yaddayadda: I am not affiliated with or even a customer of (although considering becoming one) but I have seen this piece of software been discussed on this list so perhaps it is an interesting piece of information that it is currently on sale: http://www.mupromo.com/ Although I am interes...

Re: Methods using Curio 5

Regarding the SmartPen: Are the notes that you scribble on the dotted paper actually searchable after you have transferred them to your Mac, be it in Curio or any other aplication, or are they mere images? Not having the hardware I cannot test this and the videos are a bit vague about this. If OCR i...

Re: Which pure text editor ?

Primarily it sheds light on why you rank so highly amongst the group of people more knowlegeable than myself that I pay attention to. Thank you very much for sharing your view, I am sure this will be of use for many other people, too. In principle, I like simple solutions so a workflow consisting of...

Re: Which pure text editor ?

Amber, what's your opinion on LyX? I have used it from time to time and was quite pleased with it but I am far from being a TeXie. There are some projects appearing on the horizon that might lend themselves towards one TeX flavour or other but I haven't decided which way to go, MultiMarkdown, LyX or...

Spell Catcher on sale

Further to the suggestions that came up recently on this board, it may be useful to know that Spell Catcher is on sale at http://www.maczot.com/ and now to be had for 20$ instead of the regular 40$. I don't own the product but I'm considering it. Any reasons not to buy this one when one is on the lo...

Re: iWork '09

Ok, I did some thinking (dangerous, I know). How much does the non-educator MS-Office suite cost? Say $400. Don't argue with me, I just checked. I guess I am not real sure what all the complaining about price is about. No matter how you stack it Apple's offering saves you money even without a speci...

Re: Together vs DevonThink 2.0

Faulkner with the release of DevonThink 2 (ok, it has not been officially released but it is in public beta now) DevonThink has moved to an open, Finder-integrated storage solution as well. The opaque package-style database will soon be a thing of the past. Whether that is a good thing or not we wil...

Re: Database program. Provue Panorama offer

Andreas, I, too, am contemplating Panorama for my database needs. Last week I sent a rather longish email to the company support email address explaining what I would need Panorama to do ultimately and where I thought were obstacles or at least where I had dificulties in understanding how I could ma...

Re: What is your favorite word processor to use with Scrivener?

Jeff, I have not tried it but as long as you don't expect this to be a 5 second point and click exercise and are comfortable with basic scripting in general, I am rather confident that it might. Don't take my word for it though, they have a 30 day demo and are rather understanding if you ask for an ...

Re: What is your favorite word processor to use with Scrivener?

Everything after the first draft I do with Papyrus , a German text processor and the only one with a spellchecker that really works. I've been intrigued by Papyrus and have played with it. Have you ever used it's built-in relational database? If so, how is it? Seems made-to-order for variable data ...
