You might try setting up a style for the action paragraph that uses a monospaced font like courier. The 61-character width would be the same then no matter what the contents of the line.

Ah! Since I see you feel this is nightmarish, the other thing you can do is go to the Scrivener Preferences/Text Editing and set your indents etc. there. Then, any new text files you create will have those preferences.

The right-facing triangles (>) are tab stops. The down-facing triangles are the left and right indents. The marker that looks like a T is the first-line indent. You can set the indents where you wish and then drag the tab-stops down off the ruler to delete them. Then, do as Eiron suggests and save t...

Look at Text Menu/Mode.

Also in Scrivener Help, the Text Editing section.

Direct your attention to Harold Pinter, instead.

Scrivener now has over 1,000 registered users.

Woo hoo!

Keith, you may have to fasten your seatbelt because it would not surprise me if the registration rate continues to increase for a while. It most certainly will increase if another yet-another-sterling-review in the mags appears.

That is a spectacular find, Amber!

This should definitely go into the official Scrivener documentation: it's a tremendously powerful formatting tool.

Oh, you know what? Sod it. I'll just rename "Force Save" to "Save". This is too many words over something so trivial. I'll do it. Fine.

Got into the Cava, already, eh? :D

Now, if you really want some fun (oh dear, distraction), go to a used bookstore and pick-up some of Leslie Charteris' "The Saint" books. No, not the movie, not the TV series, the early books. They read well and there are simply delicious bits of 20's & 30's English slang in them.

Slang etc.

You might also want to look at http://www.theatrebooks.com/actors_acting/accents_dialects.html The series by Gillian Lane-Plescia is supposed to be quite good. The CDs are an hour with a variety of speakers on them. You may not hear much slang but it will give you a fine sense of speaking rhythms, e...

No DMG

This sounds odd but does suggest a permissions problem. Launch Disk Utility again but this time tell it to repair permissions on your hard drive. Then, click on the dmg and select Get Info from the file menu and look at the bottom of the window where it says Ownership & Permissions. Make sure yo...
