Re: This poor lost soul needs Scrivener

Hmm. I suspect the problem for the people that “don’t get” Scrivener is that the feature that will really catch their attention is hidden within the forest of features that it provides. Lovely peregrination, Mark. I would say, to expand it, that a related problem is the refusal of too many users to...

Re: Short story translation

Hi Mark, I read the story. It works in English. The translation gave me a feeling for the character's experience that is what I look for in a good story—a far-away life made accessible. The only stylistic thing I would mention is that the rhythm of the piece had a metronomic feel to it. Perhaps that...

Re: Managing alternative storyline ?

Is there a better way to deal with this ? There are other ways to deal with it. They aren't necessarily better. Your choice is the simplest, though, and has the advantage of you being able to see your "fork." All you have to do is uncheck Include In Compile in the sidebar (or the Compile ...

Re: Change Comments colour ?

All my comments are yellow and too bright for me when they box the text in my writing. How do I set them all to a dark grey ? Right or Control-click on a comment in the Comments & Footnotes sidebar—you can choose from a selection of default colors or a custom one. Subsequent comments will be in...

Re: I must be an idiot

Please tell me it makes sense… It makes sense. :) As an old friend once counseled me, sometimes the universe is out of joint and it's best to just shut the machine down, go home, and let someone else make dinner. He, by the way, meant it. When things weren't going right, he'd shut down his systems ...

Re: Farewell to Evernote

Curio has Evernote integration (as in, you log in and you can refresh it while you're working). Drag a note from the Evernote list out onto the workspace right next to whatever it was you were doing . . . If you haven't tried Curio they have a 25-day demo period and it's on sale now for a hundred bu...

It would make sense to a typesetter. 6 picas to the inch. :)

Oooh! Shoptalk! Since we're establishing bonafides here, I started off writing a word processor for the US version of the Sinclair Spectrum in the late eighties while being a book typesetter and editor; since then, I've been designing & supporting publishing systems for small shops up to big mul...

Hidden, as in unchecking System Preferences/Mission Control/Displays have separate Spaces ?

Re: What Makes You Put Down A Book?

I've grown more intransigent with time. For me, something worth finishing has language that, at its core, is terse, pungent, and correct. For fiction, a good story is rather useful and clear insight into human character is required. I'm flexible, so a fine story line can offset limp prose but if too...
