Re: Difficulty importing Word Doc. Comments aren't pasting into Scrivener either.

Welcome. Glad you have a solution. Seems I was wrong about the antivirus app: I really thought that it alone might explain why pasting wasn’t working, let alone the import issue. Another user account means creating a second account on your Mac (via System Preferences) and seeing if the same problem ...

Re: Help with page breaks and TOC

I was wrong: the device doesn’t create the navigation tree from the layout of the book – the navigation tree is created during compile, and it can be edited using Calibre's ebook-edit tool. 1openwith.jpg There is a dedicated tool to ease editing of the Table of Contents. Launch it with Tools → Table...

Re: Help with page breaks and TOC

Like you, I think it is important for a writer / publisher to have control over how a work is presented. I can see why e-readers create a navigation tree if the publisher fails to provide a ToC at all, but, IMO, it would be better if the navigation tree just honoured the publisher’s ToC design, irre...

Re: Help with page breaks and TOC

Hi. Welcome. Not that I know of. My understanding – perhaps flawed – is that navigation points are generated automatically (by the e-reading device for the human reader’s convenience) for all page / section breaks, and I don’t know if there is a way for an ebook to override an e-reading device‘s def...

Re: Difficulty importing Word Doc. Comments aren't pasting into Scrivener either.

EDIT TWO The more I read, the more I think that the issue is likely to be related to antivirus software (as mentioned below), but leaving the whole thread here in the hope that some of the other ideas might help if an antivirus program isn’t causing problems. ========= Hi. Have you tried: 1. Using S...

Re: Wider spaces

Would it help, from time to time, to run a search for [space] and replace with either an [en space: u+2002] or an [em space: u+2003]?

That’s not sloppy typing, that’s lightening-fast fingers.

Glad it worked out for you.

Re: Em-dash and its oddball(?) accoutrement

That looks like an en dash and a non-breaking space. Are you perhaps pressing OPT HYPHEN followed by OPT SPACE? HYPHEN is a hyphen - UNDERSCORE (above the hyphen on most keyboards, so the shift key is usually needed) is an underscore _ OPT HYPHEN is an en dash – OPT UNDERSCORE (above the hyphen on m...
