New poll: What's your favorite word processor?

and why? Just taking an informal poll/survey. This is similar to the one in the 'Zen' thread, except I took out two options that no one seems to be using anymore (FrameMaker and Mariner Write) and replaced them with two options people brought up under 'other' (Papyrus and Bean). Also, I think it'll ...

Re: Best word processor for tables and for links in PDFs?

Yea, those are two good options and I've experimented with both over the years. I used to have RagTime Solo, which was a full working version that was free for personal use, and it's definitely powerful, but it has quite a learning curve, poor English documentation, slow upgrades, little or no integ...

Re: Best word processor for tables and for links in PDFs?

Thanks spinningdoc. I'm trying Skim now and it's pretty cool. So bottom line all things considered, for the kind of extensive multi-page table work you're doing, which is similar to what I do as well, what would your second choice be of all the tools you've used if you couldn't or didn't want to use...

Re: Best word processor for tables and for links in PDFs?

Lord Lightning: "Have you thought of using InDesign? It sucked up Framemaker." Yea, I bought InDesign 2.0 a few years ago when it was bare-bones. It has matured since then so I suppose I could get an upgrade. I suppose there's nothing better for PDFs and ebooks since that's Adobe's baby, b...

Re: Best word processor for tables and for links in PDFs?

Howdy, Jeff. I think I remember you over the years on other lists. You always had good insights and thoughts regarding word processors (I go by "shades" on other boards). Yea, I remember you! How's it going? "For all of your requirements (except second) Mellel and Nisus Writer Pro wo...

Best word processor for tables and for links in PDFs?

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a word processor or page layout app that I can use with Scrivener for PDF/ebook output. These are my needs: 1. works well with Scrivener 2. excellent tables 3. TOC, index, and cross-references that can also be internal hypertext links (esp. TOC) to other parts of the ...

Re: What is your favorite word processor to use with Scrivener?

Everything after the first draft I do with Papyrus , a German text processor and the only one with a spellchecker that really works. I've been intrigued by Papyrus and have played with it. Have you ever used it's built-in relational database? If so, how is it? Seems made-to-order for variable data ...

Re: What is your favorite word processor to use with Scrivener?

Nisus Writer Pro. I started with Mellel many moons ago, and was getting used to the interface, but the deal-breaker for me was its inability to import Word .docs in Chinese ... I had to open them in TextEdit and save them out as RTF, then import that into Mellel. I was also not too keen on having e...

Re: What is your favorite word processor to use with Scrivener?

For things that need to be something other than TeXish or PDF, Mellel is the only other word processor I can really abide by, since it is also within the philosophy of semantic style usage over format usage. Hi Amber, I think I remember you from the FrameMaker and/or Mellel forums. What do you mean...
