Re: Help! issue with Opt-dragging from Collection to Binder (won't duplicate!)

THANK YOU. As I suspected, I'm just an idiot. Totally failed to notice that setting. You guys are just the awesomest for being here to help out befuddled users like me. Cheers!

Help! issue with Opt-dragging from Collection to Binder (won't duplicate!)

I'm sure I'm just being an idiot, but I can't seem to get the instructions from the Scrivener User Manual to work for me! What I want to do is: select items in a Search Collection and deposit COPIES of them in a folder in my binder. I do not want to move the originals. The User Manual seems to sugge...

Re: can I create 'aliases' in Binder that link to other Binder docs, not external files?

Gosh, interesting. Thanks so much everyone. Will look into it! That said, I love Scrivener for the way it lets you keep notes and thoughts and scraps of actual writing all integrated so that they can form a kind of continuum, with the final text gradually coalescing out of the chaos. I should maybe ...

Re: can I create 'aliases' in Binder that link to other Binder docs, not external files?

brookter — Thank you! Will give that a try when I'm feeling a bit more adventurous. It does look several steps shorter than my current procedure! Though of course, not as streamlined as my fantasy option, which would be something like: Opt-Cmd-drag-and-drop document to new position in Binder, creati...

Re: can I create 'aliases' in Binder that link to other Binder docs, not external files?

Well, fascinating (and very helpful!) to learn about the back-links appearing in the References section of the Inspector! A feature I totally hadn't twigged to (I usually have the Ref pane set to Project refs not Document refs, so I'd never noticed it). Thank you for a fabulous tip — it's great to b...

Re: can I create 'aliases' in Binder that link to other Binder docs, not external files?

Thanks for the help! I was afraid that would be the answer. Pity. I guess my next question is: if the nearest you can get to creating an alias in Scrivener is creating a new document which contains a link to the original document, is there any way then to expedite that process? I guess my fantasy is...

can I create 'aliases' in Binder that link to other Binder docs, not external files?

Stupid question, and apologies if it's been asked here before — I did some searches, but there are so many threads about links I couldn't figure out how to refine my search effectively! So here's my question. The way I use the Binder, it's really helpful to me to use lots of aliases within my folder...

Re: Is there a way to Remove Keywords from Multiple Documents?

Ok, so that is seriously cunning. Annoying that the (otherwise brilliant) software lacks a simple 'minus keyword' functionality to match the 'add keyword' functionality for multiple selections, but your run-round is definitely a BIG help where the numbers of docs involved is large. Thank you SO much...

Is there a way to Remove Keywords from Multiple Documents?

It's delightfully easy to add a keyword to a big collection of documents all at once. But...is there any way to UNDO that if you've added it by mistake? (Or more generally want to remove a keyword from a selected set of files) At the moment, all I can think of to do is to scroll through them individ...

Re: Lock Group View Mode not available (greyed out) when container is a File not a Folder

Ooops. I think I've solved my own problem (*redfaced*).

Preferences>Navigation has a checkbox: 'Treat all documents with subdocuments as folders'. Ensuring that box is checked seems to do the trick!

Hope this is helpful to anyone else who has been having the same puzzle.

Lock Group View Mode not available (greyed out) when container is a File not a Folder

Possibly another glitch to do with using 10.6 though can't quite see why.... When I select a file that is a container, View>Editor has the Lock Group Mode command greyed-out. The Toolbar shows Group View Mode (and it works); I just can't lock it. If I change the file to a folder and repeat, the comm...

Re: corkboard button for 'open in other editor' NOT turning blue when active

Thanks so much for your prompt reply! (And so sorry I didn't see it earlier...:). That totally makes sense: running 10.6 is increasingly turning into a hazard (frustrating when it's SO much better than its successors in lots of ways!...) Are there any risks to installing the legacy version if I've a...

corkboard button for 'open in other editor' NOT turning blue when active

Don't know if I'm doing something stupid, but when I click on the little button at the footer of corkboard view (the one that looks like a box with an emergent arrow) it doesn't change colour. The button works (ie toggles the relevant function on and off) but there's no way to see if it's turned on ...
