Re: Selective compiling

Scrivener’s binder is quite flexible, but there are a few things that you can’t easily do with it. Enter Collections. By customizing the icon bar you can add the collections icon. With collections, you can create endless collections––although few authors need more than a couple. Click on Collections...

I think that Scrivener links work fine and are useful

Scrivener also supports internal links within your manuscript, but only at the document level. These are added via Edit => Scrivener Link . If you select text and select Edit => Scrivener Link it underlines the text and makes it a link to the document. If you don’t provide text it inserts the docume...

Re: Adding multiple blank lines in text seperator

Screen separators -- The fancy figure is called a dingus. If you want a little extra space above or below the dingus, you can add a line-break or soft-return (CLT+Return on macOS, Shift+Return on Windows) before or after the dingus. This looks funny in the text box on the screen but compiles correct...

Proofreading

I am having difficulty figuring out the best way of getting proofreading comments back from friends and other authors when I use Scrivener. 1. If send them an eBook, they must reference page or location numbers. I have no way to match these to the location in Scrivener. I must look in the eBook and ...

Re: Table of Contents for Print or PDF

When I find a <$p> in my compiled PDF output it is because the actual page isn't in the compiled output. Reason for this can be: 1. Unchecked in compiled output. 2. Page/chapter renamed between copy-toc and compile Most of my issues had to do with page-size and tabs formatting --- no the same as you...

Re: Add lots of images, some are distorted on compile

If any of these PNG images have transparent background AND you are compiling for Kindle. (MOBI) you can get what you are discribing. Kindle doesn't support images with transparent backgrounds.

Re: wish forum could be searched for "Scrivener 3" and the like

You can always use google. Find the URL of of the base of the forum. I'll use URL in my example. The try The Google search string of: +site:URL "Scrivener 3" With Google anything in quotes (even a single word" is considered a "phrase" and must be present. With a minus sign i...

Re: Table of Contents for Print or PDF

The process for making a TOC for a printed book with Scrivener is a bit complicated. Below is the process I use. For printed output, as the final step before publication, you must create it manually. Traditionally all Front Matter pages, except for Copyright page, start on odd-numbered right-hand Re...

ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid (https://prowritingaid.com/) has a desktop version that can read Scrivener files.

Has anybody had any experience with this spell/grammar checker?

Page Numbers

I currently have a project where page numbers are in the format 1,2,3 at the top outside corner of pages. The numbering starts at the title page but doesn't show up on the Front Matter. I think that I might like lowercase roman at the bottom center on the Front Matter and then switch to 1,2,3 at the...

Re: Problem with Table of Content

kewms' answer about page size seems also to answer my unanswered question in https://www.literatureandlatte.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=38319 It also points out that Scrivener treats File => Page Setup different that Compile => Page Settings => Page Setup when doing a Edit => Copy Special => C...

PDF TOC for hierarchical numbering

I have created a manual using a template that uses <$hn> for numbering and is nested up to 4 levels. If I want a single-level TOC it is no big deal to create. However, if I expand the folders and containers in my Binder and select the whole thing I have issues: 1. It looks good when I paste and is i...

Re: soft return

I just found out from another user that the Keyboard shortcut for a soft-return or line-break on macOS is CLT+Return. I test this and it works.
