Re: The rise of e-reading

I bought a Kindle seven or eight years ago and loved it for a while, but now it sits in a cupboard unused. Instead, I use an old iPad – Gen 1 Air, I think. Mostly, though, I buy paper, and here's my point: I often buy second-hand via Abe, etc. However, I dislike doing this because the author doesn't...

Re: Session Target never resetting

From the manual: On next day opened: with unusual schedules, such as those who write well after midnight and unpredictably so, this alternate method of reset may work better. It will check against the last time you opened the project, and if the calendar day has incremented since then it will reset. ...

Re: Add strikethrough button to format bar?

Also, the keyboard shortcut is cmd+shift+hyphen, which is natural (to me) and easy to adjust to.

Re: Writing a Novel, Do You Write in Order?

Oh, thanks for that. I'd never seen it before. Learning to forego structure until the last minute was a lesson I learned the hard way. And if it hadn't been for Scrivener allowing me to tear down and rebuild the whole thing, I might have given up. Linear writing produces linear books. If that's what...

Re: Writing a Novel, Do You Write in Order?

Ahab's post reminded me of this from Nabokov: How do you write? What are your methods? I find now that index cards are really the best kind of paper that I can use for the purpose. I don’t write consecutively from the beginning to the next chapter and so on to the end. I just fill in the gaps of the...

I use At set time each day with 06:00. I've never known it not to work. I have Allow negatives checked, fwiw.

Re: Save searches to collections

Save search as collection... Huh. Does this get automatically updated when search results change? Yes. Search Collections have a little magnifying in front of their Collection names to identify them. You can convert a Search Collection to a Standard Collection. It's easy enough to get familiar with...

Re: I'm a Fraud

I guess you just have to find the method that works for you. You do. If there's one thing I've learned about writing process, it's that everyone does it differently; literally, no two writers follow the same process. Hence, conflicting advice should really be read as "this is how X does it&quo...

Re: I'm a Fraud

This is a fun subject. I suspect everyone does it differently. Something I do is set my characters wandering and see what happens/turns up. When writing a first draft, the goal is to get to the end; the state of the writing is immaterial. Once you have a story, you can plan – if you want to. For exa...

Re: Issue with backing up Scrivener back-ups in the cloud

Can someone point to the correct method of ensuring material is backing up locally *and* iCloud and through Time Machine? Also, I like the idea of making 20 backups. How does one ensure that? Number of backups is configured in Preferences/Backup . The options are: 3, 5, 10, and 25. I set the Backup...
