Re: Threaded Outline View

Thanks, I found it. Apparently it only lasts until the end of May. Is there the option to extend that? It's a beta release, so they expire. The developers post a new version on or before the expiration date of the previous beta release, and if you run it after that, the auto-updater seems to work o...

Re: Request improvement to internal browser focused on blocking/removing cookie notices

None of the technical issues that I raised in my post in that thread are different now, and I don't understand why we need a new thread. :) Even if it were possible to modify a loaded web page in real-time, it would be a very difficult thing to do---there isn't a standard "this is a pop-up&quo...

Re: Any way to make Scrivener add a blank line after all the paragraphs in my novel?

I'm not sure if this is the same menu in version 1 of Scrivener for Windows, but on the Mac (and v3 beta for Windows I think), the menu is View->Text Editing->Show Invisibles. Once you've selected and copied that character, you can verify that you have it in your copy buffer by using CTRL-v to paste...

Re: Keyboard shortcut to rename Text or Folder

If you go to Scrivener->Preference->Behaviors->Return Key, you can un-check the box that creates new items in outliner cork board, etc. Then, when your keyboard focus is on the binder (Move Focus To > Binder ⌃⌥⌘B), hitting enter will put you in edit mode for the selected title. More keyboard shortcu...

Re: RC5: Problem with projects stored on network server?

This sort of issue is likely to happen periodically because the connectivity of NAS is not guaranteed to be constant. The same issue applies to source code revision software (GIT, Subversion, MS Source Safe), which I work with every day. Several people on my team, despite my warning that they should...

FYI for Windows users: The 'Options' Button is the 'Alt' button on PC.

For those following along, this is only available in the Windows beta, not the current Windows release.

Re: Any way to make Scrivener add a blank line after all the paragraphs in my novel?

All you have to do is start after the last character on one paragraph, and then SHIFT-right-arrow once. Then CTRL-c to copy it, bring up the Compile window and paste into the Replacements pane.

Re: Is it possible to set default text for individual projects, not for all of Scrivener?

Unfortunately, this is only possible in the Beta, using the Project->Project Settings menu.

But you could use/create a compile setting for each kind of publishing output, so that it doesn't matter how you format text inside Scrivener.

Re: Buying Scrivener

Something to consider though, if you buy and start using Scrivener 1 now. Scrivener 3 is not backwards-compatible, from what I understand, with projects created in Scrivener 1. I believe it is possible to export Scrivener 1 projects to get them into Scrivener 3 , but if it were me, I wouldn't want ...

Re: Detach / seperate various windows also icon folders

The way to sort your icons is to name them with a parenthetical at the end that matches to other parentheticals. It's counter-intuitive to me, but effectively, it goes something like this: Larch (trees) Pine (trees) Both would be sorted into a "trees" folder when browsing for icons to appl...

FYI, "Using Scrivener" is for sharing your tips with others. Technical Support is where most people expect to find questions in need of answering. You appear to be on the Mac, but it really doesn't matter, as this can be done on both the Windows and Mac versions that are currently being so...

Re: New iMac

Why can't you use the upgrade discount? I haven't had to do an upgrade in years, so I don't recall what info is required, but I would think that it's the email address used to buy the previous license. If you can't remember which one that was, you can contact support to see if they can help.

Re: Outline order different than binder

You can't reorder the outliner until it's not sorted. Once you get sorting off, you'll be able to reorder. Hope this helps! And the way you can tell if it's sorted (aside from it being in a different order from the binder) is to look for the little ^ symbol near the right border of the Title header...

Re: Project on USB - working between computers

I do worry about having everything on one site like dropbox in case of a dropbox fail or a hack. The absolute simplest thing to do is this: ⋅ Put your live project in the Dropbox folder on one computer (after you've installed the dropbox software on that computer). ⋅ Install the...

Re: Changing Chapter Numbering

I thought of one trick that you could employ. Create a document at the top of your draft. Insert the auto-numbering placeholder (see your compile settings to find what placeholder is being used) once for every preceding chapter in the parts that would come before your current part. Every copy of tha...
