Re: How to open old Scrivener PC post in a Mac

Some more details would be helpful. How old? Was the project opened in an up-to-date version of Scrivener for Windows, or has it been sitting untouched for a couple of years? If it's up-to-date, and you have Scrivener on Windows available to you, my suggestion is to open it in Scrivener for Windows,...

Re: Controlling where new documents are added

If you have a date as the first part of each document's title, in a sortable format (YYYY-MM-DD, for instance), then you can sort your draft folder using Edit->Sort after the fact. But as far as I'm aware, there's no way to place new documents at the top of the binder when creating them. You could a...

Re: Search for non-printing characters/punctuation/formatting

Not that I'm aware of. But you might consider switching to some other way of marking text. Inspector comments might be a viable solution. If you have them, and you enter Scrivenings mode for your entire manuscript, they will stack up in the inspector pane. Clicking on one will scroll you to that sec...

Re: Setup app automatically opens the project list

There is also a setting that will re-open any projects that were open when you quit Scrivener last time. It's under the Scrivener menu, the Preferences, and then in the General section of the preferences window. For it to work, you have to quit Scrivener with your project still open (File->Exit menu...

Re: [Beta 28] BUG:unable to select template folder

Is your tempates folder inside of any other folder? I've found in this build that it has to be a top-level folder, at the same indent level as the draft, research, and trash folder. That goes counter to what I recall from the Mac version, which allows the Templates folder to be inside Research.

Re: Scrivener 1 for Win Just Disappeared from my PC

Have you sent an email to support? That's how you get the official help. As for your main issue, I suggest you dig up the email where your license code was sent to you. Enter that into the "trial" version, and that should solve your problem; trial version and official version are one-in-th...

Re: How to create documents templates with the latest Beta ?

Project->Project Settings->Special Folders is what you're looking for. You select your folder with the drop-down there, so you need to create a templates folder first. You apparently have to have your Templates folder outside of any other folders, so that it's on the same indent level as the draft, ...

Re: Search for non-printing characters/punctuation/formatting

Ah, sorry. I thought you meant the text that is highlighted (selected) in the text when you perform a search, not the "highlight" formatting. The one thing not covered in this discussion is non-printing characters. If you can either type them, or copy and paste them, then they're typically...

Re: Search for non-printing characters/punctuation/formatting

That works like a charm - thank you so much. The only other thing is saving the highlighted text search. Is that possible, do you know? Click the loupe icon again. At the bottom, there should be a "save search as collection" item you can click on. To get back to it after using Scrivener i...

Re: Search for non-printing characters/punctuation/formatting

So, there are several searches available in Scrivener 3, so I'm going to use the "Project Search" function as an example. I think maybe you're running into a limitation on that code that Keith put to match all kinds of quotes. Does it find both left and right smart quotes if you search for...

Re: Search for non-printing characters/punctuation/formatting

To help others help you... your profile shows "Windows", but this is the Mac forum. Which OS are you using, and what version of Scrivener (if Windows, are you using the beta, or the latest 1.x version)? From what I can tell, the issue with searching from quotes probably has to do with &quo...

Re: Find Font? Replace Font?

The only way to have different documents within the same project have different fonts is to set the alternate font on the text that's in the document. If you use document templates, and those templates have boilerplate text, that's one (and probably the only) way to do that. If you want an individual...

Re: Access to backup file after crash.

I'm afraid there's only a backup of your work (within Scrivener) when you close the project, by default. Are you using Dropbox to store your project as you write? They do have a way to restore older files, though you'll need to figure out what the file is from the perspective of Windows, rather than...

Re: WIndows 3 Release: My Thoughts

Is anyone else looking over the new Manual document and drooling? It looks SOOOO good. Reading and familiarizing myself - learning some new tricks too. So happy to be using this solution. There's a new manual with version 3 stuff in it? I'm not sure how I have missed this. Can someone provide me wi...

Re: Find Font? Replace Font?

I'm no fonts expert, so forgive the likely mis-use of terms here, but isn't Berling the "main font", with bold and italic variations? Or are they truly separate fonts? Like if you use a font manager (like Fontbook on Mac), wouldn't you expand the Berling font to see "Berling Regular&q...
