Re: How do you customise OS X like this?

I hadn't heard of google alerts until now. It's a neat idea. I have a unique combination of first and last name, which makes me extremely google-able. I'm still not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I've set up an alert for my name so that I'll at least know what everyone else can find out. Th...

Re: New macbook, which one to buy?

You may want to think about when you buy, in addition to what you buy. There is a site I like which keeps track of Apple's development cycle (how often they release new products) and estimates when the next version of a given product is likely to come out, and recommends based on that whether it's a...

- A paper written in pirate dialect
- A paper with at least 3 puns in every paragraph

Bonus marks for combining the two!

BusySync is today's MacZOT

I thought I should let fellow Scriveners know that BusySync is today's MacZOT. I'd also like to pass along a recommendation for this great bit of software. I use BusySync to keep my iCal calendars synced with my google calendars. It's by far the easiest and most reliable way to do this (I have tried...

Re: Need Software to Pull Highlighted text from pages

I think the easiest way to do this would be with a clipping service. Various programs come equipped with this feature. The program I use for clipping is Circus Ponies' Notebook, so I'll use that as my example. It works like this: you're reading an article and you want to make note of a certain bit f...

Re: Sweet tooth

I polled my partner on this one and he flat out dismissed the idea of choosing only one. He's going to have a spicy curry with rice, and *then* he's going to have some ice cream, and mercy to anyone who tries to enforce unwelcome rules about a one-course limit. I am a woman and I would choose savour...

Re: Colour not color

Don't feel self-conscious about whilst or colour or anything else. There are many wonderful things about America, and I know many lovely Americans (I am married to one), but some of them do tend to assume that everything everywhere is (or should be) exactly the way it is in their country or town or ...

Re: UPDATED: Scrivener 1.5 beta 5 now available

A reinstall fixed it. Actually once I thought about it, I remembered that the Finder hung and had to be relaunched during the install upgrade from beta 4 to beta 5, so something must have been lost in the shuffle.

Sorry for the trouble.

Re: UPDATED: Scrivener 1.5 beta 5 now available

I am seeing some very strange behaviour since updating to beta 5. When I get the launch window on opening Scrivener, there is no icon: and once I actually get into the program, there is all kinds of other oddness with missing icons on the toolbar: [attachment=...

Re: LinkedIn Group

I'm not a member of LinkedIn, but my partner is. The best way to describe it is probably "Facebook for Professionals" - or, as I like to snarkingly say, "Facebook for people who want to pretend they're too grown up for things like Facebook". It's essentially a networking tool, ve...

Yeah, I can't get it to mount either. I get the same error as AmberV.

Re: I find the word "whilst" exceedingly annoying...

Down with flautists! And Hugh Grant. I dislike that man more than should be possible, given that I have never met him.

May various deities help us all if Hugh Grant is ever cast as a foppish, boyishly charming flautist.
