Re: WIndows 3 Release: My Thoughts

Yes because everyone knows Windows is an impossible platform for development. That's why there are so few programs for it. /s The number of Scrivener style applications for Windows are, indeed, an indicator of how hard it is to develop Scrivener style applications for Windows. There are lots of the...

Re: Reduced Cross-Platform Support

The key pieces for Scrivener on the Mac are Apple's text system, its PDFKit for handling PDF files, and WebKit for HTML files. What are the Windows equivalents of those components? Windows has nothing like the Cocoa text system. It is the best in the industry, and nothing can hold a candle to it. G...

Re: Reduced Cross-Platform Support

As someone who appreciates what the L&L crew are doing here, the idea that somehow the Windows version is being held back by the tools on Windows is just, again, inaccurate. Not by the tools, but by the available API's. Windows does not provide a lot of the core functionality MacOS provides, wh...

Re: Reduced Cross-Platform Support

However, every time I try to manually copy the project over to Scrivener 3.0 Beta I run into a serious bug or I am told I have to re-download and re-install the beta. There's always some issue. I hope you reported those serious bugs. If you did, you will find that L&L takes serious bugs serious...

Re: WIndows 3 Release: My Thoughts

I have a problem with a file that shows an empty file, but I write many lines with older versions of Scrivener. How could correct that problem? You will get better response if you start a new subject about this issue, under the forum which corresponds to the version of Scrivener you use. Also provi...

I'm unable to do so as I have a paid Dropbox account, and I also make use of the Dropbox application on my devices for automated uploads.

Re: Dropbox sync is too restrictive - any other option, even iCloud??

I've used Scrivener for 13 years, but the 3-device limit (albeit Dropbox's restriction, not Scrivener's) has become a severe limitation. I frequently use an iPhone, iPad, laptop, and desktop Mac. Yep, the phone is important (I'm a poet, the form factor is effective!). Upgrading any of the devices, ...

Re: .NET requirement bloating install size

Let's be clear: you're throwing this lovely hissy cow because you are using the application in an undesigned manner with best-effort support AND it's still working, but you're upset about it because it upsets the optimization for your corner case that is explicitly called out as NOT supported? That...

Re: Linux 1.9.01 Beta Released

I was away from the Linux version for a while, since I made a lot of use of the iOS version of Scrivener for editing on the go, and even cork boarding stories during breaks and the like. But since the Wine version has exploded in size (100 megs to 2.2 gigabytes), I've returned to running the Linux v...

Re: .NET requirement bloating install size

In doing a touch more digging, Paddle is actually a third party licensing service. They do provide an SDK that can be used to access their services and it appears to only work with full framework out of the box. One could push Paddle to provide Netstandard (compatible with both full framework and ....

Re: Scrivener on Linux: native Linux version vs Windows version under Wine

For the Scrivener users who have experience with all of these three variations: What would you recommend? I run Scrivener on Linux, both natively and under Wine, and used to run it on Windows and iOS. A long time ago I also ran it on Mac, but I no longer have a Mac. My recommendation is... examine ...

Re: .NET requirement bloating install size

Just want to say that not having to honk around with stuff like this is one reason I've stayed with Windows rather than experimenting with Linux, which (I understand) requires or at least invites more system-level gear adjusting. Rather the opposite. Linux requires pretty much no system-level gear ...

Re: .NET requirement bloating install size

The new licensing library provided by Paddle requires the .NET 4.6.2 (or later) libraries, which is not something L&L have any control over. They can choose what licensing library they use, surely. This is really annoying, since the Linux version of Scrivener (which clocks in at 64 megabytes, i...

.NET requirement bloating install size

I love writing in Scrivener on both my Linux home system, my iPad and my "carry everywhere writing machine", which tends to vary but is definitely a very cheap, low power Chromebook with Linux installed, with very low RAM and disk space. That has worked eminently well for me. Until the req...

Re: For those that use the scrivener 3 beta

May I ask which software you use for gathering research? For the majority of my research, I use QOwnNotes, with a Dropbox folder for saving my notes in. I use the browser integration to store information, and then organize it according to my projects or areas of interest. On my iPad and iPhone I us...
