Re: Scribbler™ for iPhone -- Early Look

I waded my way through the web equivalent to "press 1 to listen to elevator music, press 2 to be directed to another list of options..." and put in a support request to iTunes. Apparently, my message is important to them and they'll get to it when the lattes arrived. Or something. Fingers ...

Re: Get Writeroom for free

I got it. Just downloading WriteRoom now. Did anyone else see a really, really long serial number for it? It went off the edge of my screen, so I'm not sure I got the whole thing  Edited: I did. Got WriteRoom working - whoa! black screen & green writing. It's...interesting. I bought a Mac...

Re: And?

I'm at just over 4,000. A lot of my words are crap too. Mostly the adjectives. The nouns are fine. The verbs are doing whatever the hell they want and please don't ask what those prepositions are up to.

This is a good idea, right?

Re: why did my avatar vanish?

Hi laurel, If you have gmail, you'll have access to Picassa (the link will say "Photos" up in the top menu on your gmail, perhaps in the "More" dropdown). It's free and it's great. Just upload you avatar there and you'll be ready to go again. Not sure about the daily tips - perha...

Re: The Growth of E-readers

Hey, that's a good idea. I never thought of that. Although, I don't actually have a torrent thingy myself so I only hear about stuff second hand.

Re: The Growth of E-readers

I've been using ebooks for at least 5 years. Palm Pilots. The world is still trying to catch up . Kindle? Sony? Pish posh. Even my iPhone isn't a patch on the Palm. Unless a book is in electronic format these days, it doesn't get read. I even download the newspaper onto the Palm/iPhone. I bought som...

Re: Mozy or iDisk or DropBox .... ?

I've used Mozy for about 12 months and find it excellent. However, I only use it to back up my documents (so only about 200Mb). A word of caution about backing up to a "website" though. As someone who recently lost everything (lots of everything) due to a server crash with my host, unless ...

Re: Mass File Conversion (to PDF)?

If you've got access to a windows machine (or use Parallels) you could try something like PDF995. It does batching conversion. Acrobat will also do this, but you have to script it yourself (irk). I want to do exactly the same thing. I need to convert hundreds of docs, text, rtfs etc to PDF to read o...

Re: Stanza & iPhone/iPod

I bought GoodReader (bargain!) - thanks for the tip Amaru and macosxguru. I initially discounted PDFs because they used to be horrible to read on a Palm but neglected to notice that five or more years have passed since I last tried them. If I can find a batch PDF maker, I'm set. I've just about give...

Re: Stanza & iPhone/iPod

Yep, you're right. Just discovered that. Sigh. There's something on the Stanza FAQs about using something called DiskAid with a USB cable, but I didn't have much success with it either (this is very hard on my ego). I shall not be defeated though. It's surely just a matter of persistence. I hope. Ed...

Re: Stanza & iPhone/iPod

Thanks for that - I'm getting closer. I finally got the Stanza method working but I've got hundreds of files, and the Stanza thing is one at a time. I'm investigating something called "nuevasync" at the moment and I'm hoping that'll help. I may have to read the instructions (but where's th...

Re: Stanza & iPhone/iPod

Thanks Mark. I haven't come across Sigil - I'll check it out. I've stumbled upon Calibre and am relieved to find a way of batching all the document conversion (from docs to epub, or at least rtf to epub - irony - I had to convert all my document to doc format for Repligo and now I'm converting them ...

Re: Stanza & iPhone/iPod

jebni thanks for that - it looks like I'm going to have to read the instructions. I'll download the desktop Stanza and give it a whirl.
