Re: For editing: Show one sentence at a time

Mac, those are fantastic ideas! I know how to do all of that (except the short cut key text to speech). So I'm left wondering, why didn't I think of that? :) After I make my editing changes, it will be pretty easy to go back and take those extra carriage returns out. That will definitely do for now...

Re: For editing: Show one sentence at a time

You could try duplicating the manuscript file, then—using the duplicate as a proofing source—search for every . ? ! that has been used to end a sentence and replace each item with the same punctuation mark and then XX number of carriage returns. You can then split the window to have the original in ...

Kindle classifies a novel as a document rather than book

Afternoon, Scrives I have compiled a novel (draft) to Kindle .mobi format. Am using Scrivener 2.4.1 and version 2.8 of KindleGen on an iMac running 10.8.3. (Who said writers don't get numbers?) All looks pretty much as I want it to…just some minor tweaking to do. When I read the novel using the Kind...

Re: We Have to Talk About Kevin.

I am, but I get called Kevin so often by users who presumably only glance at my name before replying, that it's become a running joke... My signature even used to say "(Not Kevin)" after my name, but it didn't help. Ah, I'm obviously not running fast enough. HB, Keith. Had seen the "...

Re: We Have to Talk About Kevin.

Scratches head…isn't Count Blount on the Mount called Keith rather than Kevin?

Happy Birthday, of course. But I'm still confused.

Re: Sync Files ... where are the originals stored?

Thanks to Robert, Mark and Ioa for the replies. I will take a look at SpiderOak and Sugarsync as suggested. Curious to know what methods peole use for working between Macs and iPads. Was waiting to buy Scrivener for iOS, but the exact launch date is unknown, with the latest post saying that it would...

Re: Sync Files ... where are the originals stored?

Wow, Robert ... what a comprehensive reply. Thank you so much for giving such a lot of detail. I am on Mountain Lion with the drive encrypted, but use the .dmg as a way of password protecting Scrivener .... just because I don't like anyone deliberately or accidentally looking at my writing until I a...

Sync Files ... where are the originals stored?

I currently have my Scrivener files in a password protected .dmg on my iMac. Automatic backups are filed in a folder on this same .dmg and the .dmg is then backed up using Time Machine to an external encrypted drive. I also have an iPad and want to be able to write on that. With the iPad version of ...

Re: Know a good blog hosting company?

I'd suggest looking at the hosting providers of blogs you follow and that have been around for a while. One that fits the category for me is John Scalzi's http://whatever.scalzi.com/ blog. He has praised his hosting company on a few occasions, and his blog has been around since before they were cal...

Re: Know a good blog hosting company?

Hi Martin Zen Internet have Linux based web hosting that is suitable for Wordpress and starts at £3.99 a month. 10GB web space and 50GB bandwidth each month. Can host up to 3 databases at one time (WP would be one database) and supports 10 mail accounts. Easily upgradable if necessary. Have used Zen...

Re: File Size Smaller

Changes made to 2.4 and 2.4.1 … might explain how images, etc are being managed during compile. That's if you've upgraded, of course.

Re: Scapple - New Beta Available (Updated 19/03/13)

The update —available from within Scapple itself via either (1) Scapple > Check For Updates or (2) Scapple > Preferences > Automatically check for updates —working well here with both existing and new Scapple files. Accept that no new features will be added before actual release, but on my personal ...

Re: Achievement Unlocked!

Well, today I achieved a long-held wish: to get into the Guardian's book review pages before I was 40! Okay, so I only made it by a week, and it's not exactly for the reason I had intended (i.e. writing a book), but hey, I'll take it! http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013/mar/17/ebooks-scrivener-nov...

Re: Scrivener Temporarily Withdrawn from Sale on the App Store

Guess so much depends on how people learn about Scrivener in the first place. I like the convenience of the MAS as a one-stop shop, but it can be a place in which even the best software can melt into the background. If people know to search for a product by name, it is fine. But a more general searc...

Re: Scrivener Temporarily Withdrawn from Sale on the App Store

Ah, I see. Many thanks for that. I'm certainly going to switch to get the max from Scrivener. Out of curiosity, do you know how the sales split between the MAS and direct downloads? Most OS X users come to you direct? I bought via the MAS simply to save the hassle of having to set up account and pay...
