Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

Sopranos aired too late and too irregularly for me too.

The only mafia I have seen on TV comes from The Simpsons... but then so much of what my generation first saw on The Simpsons later turned out to be a reference to something much more famous.

BTW: The first chapter is IN!

I almost used the word "grass" for "snitch" at one point, but then I realised I had my TV shows crossed and that one came from Heartbeat and The Bill.

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

In fact, for me, this one was harder than the others. P'ah, you say that every year! Last year was set on a space mission. Anyone can write about that, because there aren't any space missions like that, so there's nothing much you can get wrong. Your guess is as good as anyone else's. This one was ...

I've done it enough times that I would never suggest it was easy. In fact, for me, this one was harder than the others.

But what I can say is that it usually gets easier after the first two or three paragraphs once the panic has worn off.

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

I suspect Pig may be asleep, so I will jump in and say...

Unless your email had a very different package than everyone else's, I expect the next thing you do is write like hell for a few hours until you hit your minimum word count and get your section done! :-)

(That poor progress bar.) You tease! I even looked up the page source to get access to the original image so that I could glean a few more tidbits of information about this book. But no, you uploaded a size that is just below the threshold of readability no matter what zoom level you set it to! Matt

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

We're like 4 hours in, with a good 16 hours to go for the preferred deadline. Plenty of time for procrastination yet. That said, I've got past the blank stage and am in the process of guiding [censored] through the process of [access to this information is restricted to users above your authority]. ...

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

I would assume dialog should sound authentic to the character, spelling should be British English. Although, I suspect that may not mean someone gets thrown in "gaol" instead of "jail".

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

Don't stress pigfender, we are more than happy with the chapters. Just describing the feeling of panic being thrown in the deep end in someone else's story and no compass. It happens the same way every year, and ends up being fun every year. We all appreciate your work creating and dividing up the s...

Note how many technical questions I have answered on the forum since the packets went out. Yep, I've just polished off an author interview and published it online for the same reason. Oh, and I forgot to add a step... go through the ritual of spending 15 minutes setting up a Scrivener project and d...

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 3: With a Vengeance

Does everyone else have the same reaction every year when they get their brief? Mine goes something like this: ⋅ THAT genre... but I don't know anything about THAT genre. I have never written in THAT genre before. Mental wards? I've only ever seen them under heavy sedation! Space ships? I ...
