Re: Is FileMaker totally useless?

Yes, it is. It doesn't just suck, it blows.

IMO.

Sometime ago, I started checking out other database apps avail for the Mac; read some good things about Panorama. Haven't used it extensively, so I'm not recommending it as much as suggesting it as an alternative.

To be honest, I have downloaded and test-driven every single Mac recipe application and found all of them wanting. I'm still using test files until I can find something I really like. There was a contest some time ago, where Mac users were invited to suggest ideas for a really great Mac application ...

I really like Journler. Simple, easy to use, has a quick drop box function (which I don't use). Really a nice, solid program.

If you find something (anything) else, please post. I remember doing what seemed like an exhaustive search for a tagging bookmark manager. This was awhile ago, so maybe there are some new apps out there. In any case, I'd love to know about any others you find.

I recommend WordPress, although I haven't tried any of the other blogging systems out there. I have read that it's a good idea to blog from your own domain name, even if your blog is only hobby stuff and you're not planning on using it to make money. For one, a blogging service could go down or out ...

I like that mamster. I use WriteRoom and that sounds like a way to make me keep typing.

I love Minuteur. I also use TinyAlarm, which sits in your menubar.

I've been having similar issues. I haven't quite figured things out yet. I downloaded Swift Share, thinking that might be a solution and wound up locking myself out of the folder I was trying to share. There are two articles at macosxhints.com which talk about using Access Control Lists (ACLs) to ta...
