Re: Images and footnote confusion

I don't know the answer to the question about odf format, but I think the reason that you don't see footnotes etc. in the exported rtf file may be that you are opening it in an application that does not support footnotes, such as TextEdit.

Re: Referencing multiple text parts to a unique footnote

Mellel has cross-references, so you can certainly have the same footnote number more than once. The first time, just insert a footnote as normal. For subsequent references to the same footnote, insert a cross-reference to the footnote, and format the cross-reference to look the same as your footnote...

Re: Typo in Preferences>Navigation

With apologies to Keith for keeping this going, and a warning: exasperated linguist coming up... A little linguistics might be a cure for some of this peeving. For example, to follow up on mbbntu's post, this blog post thoroughly refutes the notion that pronouns following comparatives can only be in...

pp 269-70 of the Scriv manual: 20.5 Bibliography Management Scrivener offers simple integration with your favourite a bibliography or citation manager such as Bookends, EndNote or Sente for academic work. Re: The Swedes seem to have invaded my menus

I think that may be Danish, not Swedish. The first item means something like 'Tag the selected image', and the second 'Import image'. (Disclaimer: I don't speak either language. I'm figuring it out by comparison with Norwegian.)

Re: Citing in Scrivener

My workflow. 1. Write in Scrivener. When I need to put in a citation, Cmd-y switches to Bookends. I find the reference I need in my database, then Cmd-y switches back to Scrivener, simultaneously pasting in for me a temporary citation which looks like this: {Godwin, 1979, #46181}. If I want a page n...

Re: Importing 11-page PDF into Scrivener document

Congratulations on submitting your dissertation. I hope that the Mac Word people can help you with keeping the vector graphics in WinWord.

Re: Creating keyboard shortcuts for special characters

I think the compile setting only goes the other way: em-dashes to double hyphens (for people who need to export their work to the 1980s...). But you could set up a replacement in compile that would take double hyphens and convert to em (or en) dash. (Better than converting single hyphens, because yo...

Re: Importing 11-page PDF into Scrivener document

I'm sorry about that. As I know from personal experience, problems like this are much more nerve-racking when they affect your dissertation. I'm afraid that I don't know about WinWord and vector images. I have two suggestions, which you may already have considered. First, have you asked the Mac Word...

Re: Best word processor to export to for theses?

Fair enough. I agree to some extent, in that I keep Word and Pages around to deal with doc files that other people send me, and I keep Mellel for my own work, exporting to rtf only when I need to send a draft to someone. Having said that, I'm sure that Mellel should cope with unicode text in doc fil...

Re: Best word processor to export to for theses?

Have you tried importing rtf rather than doc? Mellel is like Scrivener in that it much prefers rtf to doc files.

Re: Best word processor to export to for theses?

You are correct that Mellel doesn't support rtf comments. That's' a bit odd, since it does support tracked changes (since 2.8). As far as I know, it't the only app that can do tracked changes but not comments.

Edited to remove accidental smiley.

Re: Clipping Service

I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and I can't reproduce this. Make New Clipping creates a new clipping in the frontmost Scrivener project (i.e. the one active before switching to Safari).
