I agree about the education discount. It's worth knowing that some colleges and universities have deeper discounts negotiated. At the London college I am at, they are available through a special Apple store only accessible from computers on the college network. Given the education discount, I think ...

A second vote for Fetch. I tried Cyberduck a few years ago but found it rather slow. (I think there was a speed test of FTP clients on one of the general Mac websites a couple of years ago, and all the commercial apps were similar in speed but Cyberduck was quite a bit slower.) Fetch has been totall...

Thanks for the information, Amber.

I use Mellel when I have the choice, not Word, so your export plug-in sounds like exactly what I need. I'd be happy to help if I can -- perhaps by testing it when it reaches that stage.

I'm not sure if it is the done thing to exhume an old thread like this -- but I have anyway. Like the OP, I am very impressed by the small details in Scrivener, almost as much as by the whole idea. The way the whole thing works is what really matters, I suppose, but some of the details take the brea...

"MMD?"?

Ok, I see. 'MultiMarkdown', for anyone else reading this thread.
I'll read up on it. Does it help much with this problem, unless the goal is HTML or LaTeX?

By all means investigate Bookends. I think it is fantastic, and the support from Jon at Sonny Software is very very good. Look at the forum: it's full of threads where someone posts a problem and Jon posts the answer within minutes! There's a demo version that works like the full version except for ...

The import of footnotes together with the ability to talk to Bookends are what brought me back to try Scrivener again, by the way.

Well, that and the fact that it is so elegant that I really want to be able to fit it in to how I work (or how I procrastinate when not working, more likely).

I'm trying out Scrivener (for a second time) and I've run into the same question about whether it can be made to export styles. It's not that I want to use Scrivener for styling text -- I understand that that is best left to another program -- but that I would like my text to come out with semantic ...
