Re: How many fiction writers do we have here?

First paragraph of the second scene from my book, Weaver of Dreams They had ridden barely a mile, cutting through empty farmland. The road to Kas Mendoc lay before them. It wound through a shallow gully that had eroded over time with the passage of wind and water. Now the road resembled a stream, fe...

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

I tend to trust Markdown more than I trust rich text, especially when it comes to converting to and from various formats. That's why I like it, but Scrivener's support for MMD is a bit too basic for my liking, so I stick to rich text. (I also have it on some authority—Max Seeleman, coincidentally—t...

Re: Offer to donate MuseNames character database to Scrivener

Great idea and a fantastic resource.

I did trip it up though with one of Welsh names I've given my youngest son. Is there a way for others to add names to your db?

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

For me, Ulysses excels in how it handles exporting. Once you have it set up the way you like it, I haven't found anything faster. It also handles sync really well without requiring Dropbox, which is a pretty big deal for me. Those two things aren't worth $5/month. Scrivener's export is easier to se...

Changer

I'm reading Changer by Matt Gemmell. It's a techno-thriller and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Matt's a good writer and it's partially set in Edinburgh, a city I have fond memories of myself.

One of my favourite all time books. I first read it as a teenage and found thoroughly engrossing and moving.

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

since they seem unwilling to add CriticMarkup I use MultiMarkdown Composer for this reason. It's a really underrated app, its reputation perhaps a little tarnished because of its long development cycle. Also, I should note that Editorial on iOS also supports it. I'm reviewing Ulysses and while I li...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

I was honestly testing the waters in a draft, Ulyssess from the POV of a Scrivener User review.

Spared me the trouble at least.

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

Holy cow, I didn't think they'd actually do it. I thought they were priced high enough to stoop to that strategy. Super pleased LitNLat has reaffirmed their position on pay-outright and I will be lining up to pay for Scrivener 3 just as I did with 1, 2 and iOS. I blogged not long ago about my distas...

Re: Scrivener to Scapple character encoding

Those are rich-text tags. Something's gone awry with the translation to and from the clipboard.

I'd check you're not somehow pasting as plain text.

Re: ios 11 support of "files app"

In macOS technical terminology, as .docx file is not a "file package" but a single file because it is zipped up (although it is indeed a package in wider terminology). "File packages" on macOS specifically refer to files that *look* like files in the Finder, but are really folde...

Re: Outlining: Workaround or Feature Request?

I'd love to see the outliner come to iOS and I rarely use the corkboard.

That said, I know I would still prefer the luxury of outlining on the macOS version when my laptop is plugged into a honking big external display so I'm not sure how much I'd actually use it in iOS on my iPad Mini :D

Yeah it's incredible. Was using it last night in bed. The relief of switching to it just from my home screen was tangible.

Re: Community Supported!

I was only half serious - just throwing a bone to Linux users. I use Linux every day for work but at home I got sick of using it and went back to macOS -- the iOS release of Scrivener cemented to Apple. I know what a huge effort porting a major app like Scrivener would be and given my experience usi...
