Re: First chapter impressions

I was hoping to have at least gotten one or two comments. For those who have read and not commented, was that a "looks fine, nothing to respond" sort of silence or more of a "oh lords, where to start" sort of silence? :)

Re: Save Project to Cloud, Work from 2nd PC?

I've tried using Scrivener for Windows in combination with Microsoft OneDrive, and for the most part it works fine to keep my project synched between multiple machines. The one problem I've run into on a regular basis is that every now and then, the OneDrive app decides something is wrong with the c...

Re: The Blog?

Twitter, forums, blog, announcement list, change logs -- each is a way to interact with users, and each one has its different strengths and weaknesses. If L&L is going to *have* a blog, it needs to be updated on a regular basis -- even if it's quick pointers to relevant forum posts (not everyone...

Re: Scrivener and Windows Surface

As a happy Surface Pro owner, I can reiterate what was said above. My wife has a Surface RT and cannot load Scrivener; I can on my Surface Pro. If you have a Surface 2, it's the next version of the Surface RT and cannot load Scrivener. The Surface Pro 2, however, can. So which model do you have? And...

Re: What albums are you currently listening to?

Discovered some new stuff recently: My Darkest Days (especially "Set It On Fire" and their cover of "Come Undone" from the first album) Sean Christopher , Transcendence (especially track 6, "For Andromeda" -- it's like a mix of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with Battle...

Re: The Blog?

But here's a tip for you, forget social media and blogging and all that (it's fun to read, and good to have around, don't get me wrong, it's a big part of my day!), but that's not a good way to figure out if a company is doing quality software development. All that tells you is that they talk a lot...

Re: Adapting your Writing to Scanning & Skimming

There still may be hope... a coffee shop which not only does not offer wi-fi, it actually bans lap-tops. Imagine, a bunch of students/writers/normal people sitting around reading tangible, palpable magazines and writing on real paper with old-fashioned pencils and pens. I can see not offering Wi-Fi...

Re: Paralysed by book of advice for authors

The best advice I ever got on applying advice for writers was this: "How does it let you tell your story better?" If you know the answer to that, then you know whether to heed or ignore the advice. Character backstory? As others have said, you may have it all in mind, but it probably enhan...

Re: How many fiction writers do we have here?

Don't have a current and last, so I'll just do two current WIPs:

WIP1:
If you ever hold a gun on someone, don’t stand too close to your intended victim.

WIP2:
A successful interstellar ambush requires four elements.

First chapter impressions

This is the first chapter of my WIP. It's shortish as far as chapters go, but I realized that shorter chapters were working better for me at this stage. All feedback -- including Floss -- welcome, but I'd prefer larger structural issues rather than copyedit-type stuff, as I'm still in the initial dr...

Re: Questioning certain aspects

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but in my Research section, I will create a separate document for each character. In that character, I simply paste a picture -- from a web browser, from Explorer, from a graphics viewer -- and it shows up inline without any special effort.

Re: Works With Windows 8?

I regularly use my Windows 8 laptop, my Surface Pro (running Windows 8.1 preview), and my Windows 7 desktop to work on the same set of Scrivener projects without any issues.

You're right, I did miss writing that step, but I did open a new Scapple board without seeing the default styles, both before and after restarting.

Re: Default note styles

In version 1.0.2, the note styles are not resetting like I understand they should be. I followed this process: Download Chalkbinder font and pigfender's chalkboard background texture. Create a brand new blank board. In Inspector, Document, apply texture, set Chalkbinder as font, and set text color t...

Re: blue screen of death

Apps can almost never cause a blue screen in Windows -- their code isn't run at a level of access that gives them unrestricted access to hardware. Blue screens are almost always because of device drivers. Check and see if you've got any very old or recently updated device drivers.
