Keith,

Now I'm not sure. The document that I was intending to count was locked into place in one of two split screens, so while I was working in the locked document it may have been de-selected from the binder. Probably just a case of user error.

AmberV, The document is just a simple text file, there are no sub-documents and no folders within which it is embedded. The document is set up to be exported in the inspector pane, and in terms of options I have set it up to count all documents and to exclude annotations (of which there are none). T...

I have encountered an odd and growing discrepancy between the word count in the footer view and in the selection pane of the statistics panel. I have a document with just under 2800 words - no annotations or footnotes - but the selection statistics panel only indicates about 1900 words. I have been ...

Reminds me of something being 'wicked' or 'wicked bad' which means really good in some parts of New England. You should know that one, or is it just some parts of New Hampshire and Maine that use that expression?? growing up in central New Hampshire it was 'wicked' and 'wicked ex', the 'ex' being s...

Thanks for such a quick reply. I tried Keith's suggestion, and as both of you suspected, the problem does seem to rest in Apple's textedit system. Similar to cyberbryce, I found that I had to manually reformat each line after I had exported my document to Word. Fortunately, I only had a couple of ve...

exporting bullet points and lists to Word

I'm sure that this has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything when I searched the forums. When I try to export my draft to Word, my formated lists and bullet points are converted to oddly formatted 'quasi-bullet points' (for lack of a better description) that all begin with blinking 0s an...

The question I always ask myself is what exactly constitutes writing and how does writing relate to the rest of the research process (I write academic social science articles)? Once I have the general idea of what I want think/write about, I typically read somewhere around 50-100 articles to get an ...

Thanks for the suggestion. I think that your idea of using a non-exportable document makes a lot of sense and will probably work a lot better than what I have been trying to do. I have been using the project notes as a place for listing important distinctions and concepts that I want to include in m...

word counts for project and document notes

First, I wanted to say that I am new to Scrivener and am very impressed with the program. It has already exceeded my (very high) initial expectations. One feature that I would find useful, but that appears to be missing, is a word count for project and document notes. There is a workaround - I can j...
