Re: Word count and inspector footnotes?

[ Edit ] It turns out that there is a lot of good information about the various word counts in the Scrivener manual. Despite having used Scrivener for a couple of years, I have just lately begin to experiment with compiler options, and the intersection of word count with the compiler and its options...

Re: Do you need a pen name? Why?

Patricia O’Brien had five novels to her name when her agent, Esther Newberg, set out last year to shop her sixth one, a work of historical fiction called “The Dressmaker.” A cascade of painful rejections began. Ms. O’Brien’s longtime editor at Simon & Schuster passed on it, saying that her prev...

Re: Macbook Air, or Notebook PC?

I'd like to get a lighter machine for travelling, such as the Air. But if I can only run Lion on the Air, there's a chance i'll go crazy. Have you considered a refurbished Air of your preferred vintage, which would come with Snow Leopard installed? http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals...

July 1982, The Atlantic Monthly: “Living With a Computer”

This article will take some of us back-to-the-day, and transport others into an alternate reality: http://www.theatlantic.com/past/issues/82jul/fallows.htm The process works this way. When I sit down to write a letter or start the first draft of an article, I simply type on the keyboard and the word...

Re: OS X 10.8: Functional Split between MAS and direct-sale apps

I very much hope that Apple does not start introducing features that are MAS-only Me, too (but I think it's already too late). Currently, this [MAS-only features] only applies to features that require their servers, such as iCloud, which is understandable. Other than API availability, is there any ...

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

Thanks, Keith. I'd also like to suggest that the tooltip appear when hovering over the document's name where the mouse pointer is located, regardless of which editor pane has the input focus. See the mockup: - Folder A and Folder B each contain a document named "Untitled." - Folder A's &qu...

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

I don't think having the binder reflect the editor document would solve this - for deep binder structures you would not be able to see the enclosing folder with the different name so it still wouldn't be obvious which you were using I agree (my proposal was, when hovering the mouse pointer over the...

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

drag a snapshot into an editor window

I find that duplicates are more discoverable than snapshots, but I will experiment some more with snapshots, and give that a try! Thanks very much for the tip.

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

"...maintain parity..." I don't understand. I did not explain this very well, in part because it is a long explanation, but here it is. As part of my backup practice, I often keep in my Scrivener project duplicates of folders, to preserve work in progress. (I do use snapshots, but for the...

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

why not just rename the document in the title bar of the editor rather than using the binder in this instance? To maintain parity between the documents' titles. opt-cmd-R - Reveal in Binder - does this nicely Yes, it does. I am proposing an enhancement that does not require removing one's attention...

Re: Let the binder reflect which split pane is active

On more than one occasion I have caught myself editing a document in Folder A, when I had intended to edit its identically-named (but not identical) copy that was in Folder B. I would very much like to be able to quickly and easily determine a document's location. I appreciate the argument that havi...

Re: AppleScript: what do you want to see in the Scrivener Suite?

While it turned out to be eminently doable, my recent query about flagging text in a document that would not be included in the document’s word count got me thinking about what kinds of AppleScript functions and properties might be useful. The pseudo-code below illustrates strawman approaches to: - ...

Re: Flag text in editor as “not included in word count?”

Wahoo! Even better. Thanks very much.

I may still post to the AppleScript thread because I have some ideas about properties & functions that would be useful for Scrivener to expose.

Thanks again for the great tips!

Re: Flag text in editor as “not included in word count?”

Then, for my purposes, using inline annotations will suffice, and I can even change the annotations' color. I’m happy to see that Scrivener has a method that meets my primary goal. I’ll post to the AppleScript thread in the Feedback forum about possibly doing this kind of counting using AppleScript,...

Re: Flag text in editor as “not included in word count?”

I see that the word count excluding inline annotations is also revealed when hovering over the word count in the footer while editing multiple documents (scrivenings). This is very close to what I'm looking for. Is there a trick to get the word count excluding inline annotations while using the outl...
