Import of film manuscripts

I have some film manuscripts produced with a program called Sophocles, which was very popular at one time but is no longer available. For safety's sake I would like to transfer them to Scrivener. Sophocles can save film scripts in several well-known formats for film manuscripts such as Movie Magic a...

Disable ellipsis

Using Scrivener 3.1.2 for Mac on OS X 10.13.6 (High Sierra). The messages relating to the conversion of three dots to an ellipsis are mostly pretty old, and certainly don't work for me. Can someone tell me how to turn off the ellipsis. When I put three dots, I would like three dots, as opposed to an...

Lost my disk during work

I was working on a couple of projects when the external disk on which I store all my Scrivener projects lost contact with the computer (the USB adapter appears to have crashed). When I came to close the projects, Scrivener let me know about the problem, and said it would save a copy of the two proje...

Re: Sudden loss of data

OK thanks. It's too late for Ctrl+Z but I'll have a look at Time Machine.

Sudden loss of data

I was working on a screenplay and had a large-ish scene nearly ready when suddenly I must have touched a key I was not intending to. There was a flash of activity and my whole scene was empty. Now I need to find the copy which is saved during data entry. I hope I haven't wiped it. I closed the docum...

Several stories one project

I wonder if there's a way to do this. I have a folder under Scrivener top-level folder (i.e. at operating system level) called Short Stories. Under this I have one folder for each short story, and each folder includes a .scriv file. So I have a short story called Chris. This is in a folder Scrivener...

Re: Save or Back up now icon for toolbar

Thanks all. I'll check again, and try installing a new copy if all else fails.

Later: I updated to 1.8 and then the buttons came back. Only had 1.0.3 or something.

Thanks again.

Special printing of metadata

I have a project which I call Village Stories, in which I am writing a series of short stories about the inhabitants of a village for - hopefully - sale to a magazine. I have a common first page header, and then under the Story folder I have each short story as a separate text document. What I would...

Save or Back up now icon for toolbar

I did a quick search for this but found no answers. Hope I'm not asking a FAQ! My wife uses the Windows version of Scrivener (I'm using it on a Mac) and has just asked me about an icon she claims she had on the toolbar which she says was to save, although I suspect I taught her to take a backup. But...

Re: Strange behaviour of new chapter

Thanks, Amber. I'm not sure what part of your advice worked, but now I have added a new 'chapter' with the Add button and the text has started wrapping again, and has an indent on the first line.

So whatever part of your magic did the trick, I'm grateful.

Re: Strange behaviour of new chapter

I've managed to get round the problem by making a copy of an earlier chapter and erasing all the text in there. However, if I add another chapter by marking 'Story' and clicking the Add button again, I get the same behaviour as described in the OP. I assume that this is a format problem, though how ...

Strange behaviour of new chapter

Using version 2.5.25239 on a Mac running OSX 10.6 I'm working on a story of which I have three chapters completed. These three chapters were written around Christmas and since then I have been working on another piece, and came back to this story only today. I have read through my three chapters, ma...

Re: Which Linux distro do you use for Scrivener?

Moving to 64 bit Ubuntu 13-04 with Gnome 2(I think) from a weakening Mac Mini with dickey wifi running Mountain Lion.

Not tested much yet.

Re: Installing 32 bit Scrivener on 64 bit Ubuntu/Kubuntu

I don't know the advantages and disadvantages of running a 32 bit linux in a 64 bit sandbox, but on a 64 bit Ubuntu 13-04 Dingiswayo's solution for Mint worked for me. At least so far. Haven't tested much yet. I installed the ia32-libs package and then reinstalled the scrivener deb file thus: sudo a...
