Re: Error code in error? Never mind.

Still don't know what went wrong, but I just registered (again) when my "trial" expired. Seems to have straightened everything out.

Error code in error?

I just reopened a Scrivener project and received an error code that said my serial number isn't recognized. It also said that I have only one more day to try the program. My copy has been registered for a long time and the message hasn't appeared before on any other project. When I checked Registrat...

Re: Too many backups

I created a backup folder and changed the location in Preferences. That did the trick, so something must have changed with the upgrade, even if it's just some unsuspected interaction.

Anyway, problem solved. Much thanks.

Re: Too many backups

I keep projects and backups in the same folder. Always have done. There was never a problem with it before. I suppose I could try separating them, but I have lot of working projects, so I'd rather avoid that, if possible. I'll try it with one project and see what happens.

Re: Too many backups

Okay, at least it's not one of my machine's weirdities. Guess I'll just cross my fingers and wait for a fix. Thanks.

Too many backups

Since upgrading, Scrivener is ignoring my setting for the number of backups to save. I'm still on 10.6.8 and wonder if that's causing a problem. If so, can I migrate back to the last Scrivener version? I'm getting tired of having to delete all the extra backups.

Re: Backup on close not working

Actually, Keith, you have had a report on this glitch. I had the same problem a year or more ago. Backup on close simply stopped working. I hadn't made any changes in preferences or working methods. Then it started working again. This seems to be a very random problem, and I suspect that it may happ...

Re: Scapple Beta - New Users Please Read

@TimEss

To change the font, click on View and choose the inspector. Not the most obvious way to do it, but it works. I imagine you can change fonts from one map to another (haven't checked to see if you can, so experiment.) But each map apparently only allows one font.

Re: Scapple Beta - New Users Please Read

I understand the relationship of the cork board and outliner to the binder. Also the advantage of making Scapple available to people who don't use Scrivener. Not trying to start an argument here. But just out of curiosity -- what is the scratch pad, if not an additional feature? It allows me to make...

Re: Scapple Beta - New Users Please Read

Arial's an atrocity? Okay. But I'm comfortable working with it. At least it isn't Comic Sans. :P My computer doesn't have enough memory to upgrade to Lion, so I guess I'll just have to keep doing my own saves. I don't need Scapple to map onto anything. It would just be nice to have it as an addition...

Re: Scapple Beta - New Users Please Read

I really like Scapple and do intend to buy it when the final version is available. However, an unexpected problem has popped up. It's no longer possible to format with bold or italics. The problem started with a new board. The original one still accepted the changes, but has now baulked. Doesn't mat...

Re: Backups that don't backup

To complicate things a little more, I found that when the backups weren't working, the project file wasn't being saved either. That didn't change any modification date past the one I mentioned. Possibly, as Amber mentioned, it was a problem with preferences. I haven't had to delete and redo preferen...

Re: Backups that don't backup

Amber, I remember reading way, way back that preferences are subject to occasional screwups. That might have something to do with it. I did search Time Machine, but all it had was the last backups from a couple of days ago. Thanks for the suggestion about folder actions and Applescript. I'll give th...

Re: Backups that don't backup

Okay, so, you close the project and a backup gets created. If you are using roughly default settings, there five of these for each project in this folder, and they are numbered. So the last thing you do in the day is drag out copies of this last backup using the Finder; Time Machine runs, etc. One ...

Re: Backups that don't backup

Not to discount what anyone has said, but I'm going to go through the most recent suggestions one by one. As for the backup files, they're dated, and there are no backups for yesterday. And that's the problem. Whatever else is happening, I'm at fault for using Backup throughout the day rather than S...
