Re: Problems importing multiple RTF files

Yeah, I know how to use the search feature. It's just not a feature I thought it would have in the first place.

Re: Problems importing multiple RTF files

It's weird; I can't get the "can't import" message to print again, even though I've literally just re-run the same command as before to generate the files in the screenshot. I'll let you know if it happens again. However, you didn't need to write your own tool to reorder them (as impressiv...

Problems importing multiple RTF files

I'm trying to import several novels into Scrivener from another application (Ulysses). I already have all my scenes in RTF format, and I have my scenes and folders numbered in the order that they should appear in the book. For example: "1 - Scene Name", "2 - Another Scene", "...

Re: Why I don't trust Dropbox and what the Scrivener developer can do about it.

First, "iCloud Desktop and Documents" (iDD) is a terrible way to sync Scrivener projects with another computer*; it only downloads new files (generated on another computer) on demand, as you try to open them in a Finder window, or through the standard file opening methods that most other ...

Re: Please do not go subscription

You're right. If Ulysses was $30 for new users and $20 for old users, I think it would be a lot more palatable. I've had the app for almost three years, and no way have there been $80 (or even $60) worth of improvements since then.

Re: Please do not go subscription

Part of the problem with the way subscriptions are is (surprise, surprise) Apple's fault. Developers can't offer a perpetual license via subscriptions the way so many have requested.

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

Ah, I see. To be fair to them (much as I'm upset with them right now), it's easy to export your data. You can drag sheets or entire groups into a Finder window, and it'll make a copy of them right there. They'll be in .ulysses format, but that's just a file bundle (similar to .scriv) that contains y...

Re: Select System Font in Settings

Cinder: you are probably correct that Athelas is only partially licenced, but SF certainly doesn't have that problem :-) Which apps allow you to use SF? I was thinking several allow you to select it, but now that I think more, I only know of one for sure (Ulysses). Others just use it and don't let ...

Re: Select System Font in Settings

Athelas is a bit different. Apple's license for the font simply doesn't allow them to use it in contexts outside of iBooks. Same with Iowan and Seravek.

The strange thing is that some apps do allow you to use and select San Francisco as a font. It would seem to be possible for Scrivener, then.

Re: Select System Font in Settings

It's kind of frustrating that Apple doesn't let users easily select San Francisco. Even if you pull it out of /Library, San Francisco is actually a whole suite of fonts that are dynamically chosen based on application.

Re: Another app (Ulysses) moves to a subscription based model

I tend to trust Markdown more than I trust rich text, especially when it comes to converting to and from various formats. That's why I like it, but Scrivener's support for MMD is a bit too basic for my liking, so I stick to rich text. (I also have it on some authority—Max Seeleman, coincidentally—th...

Re: Making Scrivener look more like Ulysses

Have a look at the Window > Layouts > Manage Layouts dialogue. This allows you to set up your screen to a particular layout, then save and name it to get back to it quickly (you can also add a shortcut in System Preferences to make this quicker still). So firstly set about going through the menus t...

Italics lost when converting to default formatting

I’m encountering a strange issue with Screvener on iOS 11 betas 6 and 7. Sometimes, when I import an RTF file, selecting all the text and converting it to default formatting will (again, sometimes) remove italics, but only from some sentences. Others will be fine. This most often happens with senten...

If you can, I'd recommend buying through the L&L store. Not only will L&L get more of the money, but when Scrivener 4 rolls around, you'll be able to take advantage of upgrade pricing.
