Re: Styles do not apply

The reason is that "Styles do not apply" and the issue is definitively one of size after my latest efforts. Section types & layouts are not the issue, nor styles, just that my file is too damn big.

I broke it in to 100 doc chunks and everything works as expected.

Re: Styles do not apply

Somehow, my response didn't post, so: You all have added to my understanding. I can't get Scrivener to consistently apply styles via the Select Similar Styles option likely because my file is large, 1000pp. altogether. Whenever it doesn't work, I have to edit the documents in the project by hand. I'...

A feature request (bc I don't know where else to put this)

It would be useful if, in the Binder or in the compiler, if a set of selected documents could be saved as a preference. Example: Given documents A-Z in the Binder, I could save the selection A, Q, S. Could then re-use the selection without having to manually do it. I think this used to be a feature ...

Re: Styles do not apply

I have solved the issue. It is one of size. 5117 documents is too large. Breaking them up into groups of 100 allows Scrivener to do as I ask. Making 140 actions is better than 10,234.

Thanks for your efforts.

Re: Styles do not apply

So, what you need to do, is to highlight one of these 'unstyled' headings and choose Select Similar Formatting — this will pick up the ones that aren't already styled — and then apply the correct style to them in the normal way. You'll have to do it for each heading, but it's a fairly quick process....

Re: Styles do not apply

The titles are in the body of the document. I am trying to select all the titles by selecting their styles and changing them and also the same for the body. What is Select Similar Styles (in the Styles panel) for, if not exactly what I am trying to do? I find the new Sections and Layouts bewildering...

Re: Styles do not apply

"Screening" should be "Scrivening"

Re: Styles do not apply

I am am assembling the text I wish to change as a screening which includes all documents. I am using the styles panel to select all similar styles, first for the titles, then for the body text. I want the body text to have these styles I have defined. When I apply a new style of mine to the selected...

Re: Styles do not apply

Part of the issue: When the focus is on the Binder, the document in the Editor shows no style for the selected doc. So I don't always see that there is a style. I still have unsettled docs which should be, however.

Styles do not apply

I have a project with chapters and sections. There are thousands of documents that are sections and fifty folders that are chapters. I have used styles to set titles for the documents. This is the issue: When the documents are all selected (with or without folders being selected) and I select Select...

Re: How can one change a label for more than one item at once?

I see that it works as you say, however, while I'm using CMD to select. I find, contiguous or not, it still won't work on the Mac, only the first selected item is highlighted. I'm using the menu items in the Inspector.

Re: How can one change a label for more than one item at once?

On the Mac side, I find that doesn't work. Only the first item is changed.

Re: Preserve Formatting Quesstion

I have 3.0.2 (1506).

So the answer is to assign a style. That makes life much easier.

What's the Preserve Format for, then?

In case I seem sharp, I appreciate the answer. It removed several problems and a lot of stress. :D

Preserve Formatting Quesstion

Hello, I may be asking for something that is contradictory, but here goes: I have text across several thousand documents which uses the wrong fonts for my purposes. I have set up a successful Compile Format for this. The Compile Format is ticked to override other formatting. When I do this, everythi...

Re: Search on keyword + custom metadata

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Option click on the title and metadata where? Is "needed" a search term? Where did you put that?
