Re: I'm an IT guy who's never owned a Mac. What should I buy to learn about supporting them?

Katherine, I spent years coming off as a Mac Nut, advocating for them every step of the way, even though much of my "skill set" was in the windows world. The deeper one dives into the Mac, both from a hardware perspective as well as OS and app support, the more one appreciates the underlyi...

Re: I'm an IT guy who's never owned a Mac. What should I buy to learn about supporting them?

I worked 11 years as part of a four person support team, which supported a few over 1200 users and aproximately 2000 machines. We all had skills that overlapped but each of us were specialists in two or three areas. I ran the pc testing lab one the one hand and was the "Mac Guy" on the oth...

Re: Current line highlighting?

I too appreciate all of the efforts that have gone into this release (but what's wrong with hyperbole - I've seen British newspapers :D ) It might sound a bit confused but I bought scrivener 3 just because I believe in supporting great software - despite the fact that I'm planning to stick with vers...

Re: free trial expired day of download and no serial number given

In the past when I've seen such problems with other software expiring it has often been where the computer time was updated or wrong. It may be worth checking that you have the right time and date set. You can clean out all the preference files along with the program and try to download and install ...

Re: [Pants to] your Update Fee

I noticed right away that he found how to turn off the auto capitalizing feature in Scrivener and the poster refers to "we", perhaps meaning the whole file sharing community he/she belongs to. I suspect that someone's account may have been compromised. It must be the work of an eleven year...

Re: Current line highlighting?

I'll be back in six months to re-plead that this line "feature" is nails on the chalkboard for me. I've long embraced change - towards subtle, elegant programs that get out of my way and allow me to concentrate. To be in the "zone" so to speak. After using scriv 3 for a while now...

Re: iCloud Sync

I also would like iCloud Sync because Apple has more options than Dropbox, which only has their 10 dollar/1TB option or Free. BUT... - Dropbox Sync has been working fine for me. And in the past, a lot quicker and more transparant than iCloud Drive. - I *love* Scrivener's package format. LOVE IT. It...

Re: Style inconsistent in Compile vs. the main Editor.

Did you create the style in Compile as 11 point? That's the only reason it would be that way. The styles in Compile are not the same styles as the ones in your project - they are there to override the ones in your project. There's a menu in Compile that allows you to copy the current project's styl...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

I'm fully Adobe free and refuse to use use Office despite having it available for free through my school Small digression, but you *do* realize that Office is still available as a stand-alone suite that you can purchase non-subscription *as well* as the O365 subscription version, right? In this cas...

Re: Current line highlighting?

switching to a darker highlighting (which would be perfectly acceptable to me - I just like things subtle) does not change the behavior. I also turned off the "use dark menus and dock" which I favor just in case it was a factor and restarted Scrivener, but that did not change the highlight...

Re: Current line highlighting?

A black outline? That does sound more like a bug to me. As noted in my screenshot above, it should be fairly subtle. What are your System Preferences settings like, in terms of accessibility features? I guess subtle is i the eyes of the beholder :) [img] Screen%202017-11-21%20at%207.00.38%20PM.png ...

Re: Current line highlighting?

It took me a while to discover what I had been doing wrong in that there is the separate checkbox under the options tab. Then when I applied it I discovered that there is now a black line around the line and while that may be ok with some, it's kind of a "nails on the chalkboard" experienc...

Re: Ulysses ** Breaking News **

I can understand their dilemma. How do you make software pay in the long term and what are the long term consequences of having to produce a snazzy new update to keep the funds coming in? Take Omnifocus -- a really good program which was made less powerful (in my view) by a paid update which focuse...

Re: Linux 1.9.01 Beta Released

Oh ... say it is not so. I will not be buying a windows version. I tried it ... and it just simply comes up short when compared to the Mac version. I'm really saddened by the news that there will not be any more development of a native Linux version, but I do understand. Damn Cheapa*ss linux freaks....

Which Linux

I've been using Linux, one distro or another, since fall 96 but have taken some time off. My favorite distro is Slackware, with Debian a close second and I also used to use FreeBsd a bit. I now have a new machine and I would like to select a distro based on what runs Scrivener well (since I can't li...
